I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of months now, firstly when I was doing my homework on Wee-Stroms, and continuing when I bought a new 2016 DL650XT.
Prior to that I'd been riding a much-loved 2012 Bandit 1250SA. I'm new to bikes, only been riding for 3 years or so, and since I'm in my 50's I figure I may as well try a few different bikes out in the years that are left to me [hopefully], hence the move to a V-Strom.

I must say I'm loving the 650XT. It's just so pleasant to ride, and much more 'flickable' in city traffic than the Bandit had been. It also takes to the open road with no issues whatsoever. I'm no speed-demon, and in any case the XT gets up and goes just fine so far as I'm concerned. My wife isn't much into 2-up so that's not an issue.

My first ex-factory mod was to add a few decibels output to the exhaust. It was just too quiet for multi-lane travelling when I wanted 'cagers' to know that I was in their vicinity. So I took the bike to a sports exhaust specialist for some 'surgery'. Now I have a stock looking bike giving out a great V-twin tune with the twist of the right hand and on engine-braking.
I've also fitted a Givi Airflow 3101 shield and mirror extenders, both of which have had great effect in reducing wind noise to the helmet.

Anyways, I look forward to learning so much more from the many Strom enthusiasts on this forum, and sharing a yarn or two along the way. Cheers OMV fill out your profile!!

V Strom 1000 rider for 12 yrs.

Hi all,
I am a 67 yr. old who has been riding since I was 16. I am from Liverpool England, married with two boys who have both been bitten by the M/C bug. I had a 2004 V strom 1000 for 11 yrs. and then swopped for the 2014 V strom 1000.During my ownership I enjoyed trouble free riding and it was for this reason I decided to stay with this model.

Hi. I'm a 55 year old Harley rider that got hit 3 times on my 2006 35th anniversary dyna. 1st time broke a turn signal 2nd time dislocated left ankle 3rd time broke my left leg (at the ankle). I was planning on replacing the bike before the last accident. Oh, all accidents occurred while lane sharing. Yes, I live in Northern California, American Canyon to be specific. So I was looking for a new bike, after much research and my previous experience with Suzuki(82 gs750e, 86 samari jx, 00 drz400e and the wife's 12 s40. All great products) I decided I needed a 2016 v-strom adventure. With slightly more power to weight ratio than a gs1200 and 150 lbs less and cheaper too! It was a no brainer. I bought the bike 3 days ago and today it's raining harder than it has in a decade but I expected that lol. So far I've put 49 miles on it and I love it. I took it down some rough pavement and it was as smooth as the drz. I can't wait until it's broken in and I can go past 4000 rpm's. while the mirrors seem narrow to most, they are perfect for me. While it would be nice to have them farther out on the open rode, they're positioned perfect for lane sharing. I ordered a givi 55l trunk with light kit and I will be getting a center stand soon. So far I have found this bike to be of superior build quality and I'm sure it will bring me joy for years to come.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014+ DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012+ DL650s
