I’ve been lurking this forum for a good while, but never got around to properly introducing myself. Sorry about that!

Age: 49 yrs.
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 90 kg
Place: Oslo, Norway
Experience: Been riding 5 years.
Past Ride: 2008 Yamaha FZ6
Current Ride: 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650

Also experienced (but not owned): BMW R1200RT, Yamaha TDM 900, and Triumph Legend 900.

I’m using the bike for commuting, daytrips, weekend trips and a few longer trips a year. Occasional two up, but I ride solo most of the time. I bought the 650 in August 2014, so I’ve had the bike for just about two years now, and done about 20.000 kilometers (12.427 miles). We have a fairly short riding season up here (April-October), and I’m hoping to squeeze out another month of riding this year.

I’m absolutely over the moon with this bike. It does everything so effortlessly; commuting, fun runs, long distance, you name it. And it’s so damn comfortable at the same time. It’s a very refined motorcycle; many small things create that “feel-good” type of bike, e.g.:

• Lolloping v-twin engine with just enough power.
• The easiest to read dash I’ve seen so far on a motorcycle
• Probably the best stock seat in motorcycling
• Butter smooth gear changes
• Headlights like a car
• Tank range
• ++

Did a 5-day trip out to the west cost of Norway this summer, 10-14 hours in the saddle every day, and it was brilliant, even with the stock seat. The group I was riding with all had bigger bikes (1200cc etc.), but I never had any problems keeping up; the Strom didn’t even break a sweat. And I usually had half a tank left when they needed to fill up.

So all in all, I’m still in love after two years.

Thank you! Funny thing, my father was very close to immigrate to Australia in the 60’s.

My very distant cousin Georg told me that the tourist season is June or July over there and that cattle live indoors for most of the year. Kinda different to Queensland where autumn, winter and spring are my favoured riding seasons. In fact I mostly hang the keys up during summer.

Ahhhh, Norway...PHENOMENAL riding!!!

Spent a month traveling thru Norway back in 2003. Me, wife, dog, 2 cats on a 2000 Honda Valkyrie Interstate (F6C) sidecar rig pulling a cargo trailer with our tent and camping gear. Man, that was a VERY memorable trip; world's longest road tunnel (really cool!), tundra, glaciers, fjords, mountains, awesome curves, smooth roads with little traffic, ocean, sea food, etc, etc, etc. The views!!! Geez, just about everywhere you look is a Kodak moment!!

The overall experience in Norway was better than the Alps, the Dolomites, Bavaria, Scotland (comes close), Ireland, Isle of Man, the Rockies, Alaska (comes close), or anywhere else I've been in North America or western Europe.

Welcome Sardo!

Remoandiris - always wanted to tour Norway and Sweden on a motorcycle. Just curious - with your extra companions and the special set up - were you living there at the time, or did you somehow get your motorcycle there, or did you rent?

Your cousin was wrong ....the east side of the mountains have shorter season but the west with moderating Atlantic drift is verdant and warm.

This is late Sept on the east side - it was warmer than at home in Ontario Canada.

then the roads !!

We were supposed to be on one of these this June but partner's back gave out.

They go up beyond the Arctic Circle - take a look

Even Iceland at 66 north is not cold due to the warm Atlantic current. We went in January to chase Aurora and a volcano ....except in the mountains it swung between +5 C and -5 C

I'd love to ride in Norway

Nice to have a Norway rider to "consult" >:)

Welcome :laugh2:

Velkommen til forumet! I just returned to the US after three years in Oslo. I'm really sorry I didn't have a bike there, as there were some amazing little roads winding all around that beautiful country. One of my favorites is down to Lindesnes, cruising right along the water. I whimpered a little every time I saw a bike on those roads.

But I'm in Oregon now, which has awesome riding of its own. And cheaper (much cheaper!) fuel for the V-Strom. I reckon that filling my Vee2 would cost around $50 in Oslo. Anyone who's contemplating a tour in Norway needs to remember to bring lots of nice money.

Anyway, welcome. I hope this forum helps you get through the long, motorcycle-deprive winter.
