Hi, we are Alex and Andreea and we are traveling to Argentina on our motorcycle Gunnar, a K7 Suzuki DL650.

Our trip started 3 months ago in Montreal from where we found our way to Alaska and now are heading South.
For some reason we did not start a Ride Report here until now. But our journey took us in Mexico and so the third part of our trip started. I am thinking to start posting here with regularity the episodes from now on in the hope that the words, or at least the pictures would provide some "let's go" inspiration to others as well.

For those that would like to read also the first parts of the story, I arranged the posts on our website:

Part I
: Getting across Canada and exploring Alaska
Part II: Going South through Canada and the United States.

For the more "online socializing inclined" of us, we can connect, like and comment on Facebook as well.

See you soon with the first posts from Mexico

Hi Teevee,

glad you are enjoying the words and photos. As for the GPS... well we are not using any GPS. Just a paper map that we change from country to country.
Funny story with the GPS:

We had a GPS while in North America (a Chinese thingy not a Garmin) and we started out just like any other "overlander" would do, setting a route, following the GPS, recalculate routes, search for gas stations and accommodations on it. You know, the hole thing.
Then in Mexico we couldn't find good maps for our GPS software for the Latin America. It kind of had only the main roads (no cities no POIs). So we started to use it less and less. Then, for the rest of Latin America we couldn't find any more maps for our software. So we were back to paper maps and the good old "stop and ask the locals". (not very fun when you end up in the wrong neighborhood in Panama City for example...)

Then, I managed to hack the GPS unit and installed Garmin software on it in Ecuador. So for a while we had "some" idea where we were but the damn thing kept giving errors, restarting and all sort of "goodies". But, at least we had something to get us out of big cities.

Unfortunately this didn't last for long as the GPS's touch screen died due to a crack in the screen which came from a stone in Chile (don't ask me how).

So now we are completely without, no money to buy a new one in (too expensive) Argentina and heading for the populated areas. Hmmm this should be fun... :headbang:

What a fantastic journey you two have have had, and we appreciate you taking the time to take us all along! I see you have had more followers over at the ADV forum, but that's to be expected. Hopefully more here have been keeping up. It's nice to know that your Strom has done you well on this trip of 18 countries. How many miles did you end up traveling? I think often of the long ventures we have taken around the USA with their trials and tribulations, but in reality they pale in comparison to having to deal with so many border crossings, language barriers, customs, lodging, etc..
Roger
