New member here and just found your awesome report. Thanks for sharing, the best ride report I've read. Thank you, but I'm guessing the pleasure was all yours.

I know this report has been here for a while. I finally took the time to site and read it over the last two hours. Incredible. Makes my wanderlust thrive even more. I hope to at least knock down something similar some day. Thanks!

RR:
Very late to the party here. I just read your report. Very inspirational, well-written, engaging and absorbing. I have been vacillating on whether to actually take the time to "do Alaska". I was actually leaning against it due to time and cost etc. I am very much leaning now towards making this "epic" trip. Your journal, links, narrative and pictures will lean heavily into my route decision. Thank you for the story.

All I can say is wow! I have wanted to do the Alaska Yukon trip for about 5 or more years now....And its finally going to happen next June with or without my friends. Saw this report a few days ago and have been copying and pasting lots and info and wiping drool off of my keyboard. I drove from Vancouver (my home) to Nelson BC in July and stayed at toadrock motorcycle campground as well and it was terrific! It takes some adjusting to how welcoming and friendly most people are outside of the big cities and your right! You have be willing to open up and just talk to strangers while on these solo trips. I generally only ride my bike on trips and it seems that half or more of my 2-5 night trips are solo which I don't really mind!

Y'know... I've read ALOT of RR's about adventurers traveling up here into my back yard and continuosly wonder why anybody in their right mind would come up here. And then I look at the pictures and think " God, I do live in God's country!!" I drive big truck up here and used to run the dempster every week and have hauled a few bikes to the nearest town.(usually south as bike's owners were not in good shape) I do ride and have a trip planned next summer, but my trip is south through Alberta and BC and back home.
If ANYBODY is travelling up this way and needs a place to park and sleep and shower, I've got a large yard and small shop if you need it. I am home weekends and could even 'que up some steaks if you provide bevvies(hehehe). PM me and we can sort out details, or if you need info, ask away and I'll do my best to help. Cheers dave. p.s. keep the ride reports coming, they're awesome! |

Good trip, great pix and commentary. I have pix of the Chief Joseph Highway from the same vantage point from my 2006 big western trek. Hankerin' to do another one, maybe when I turn 65.
