I've bought alot of stuff from Murphs. Great people to do business with.

For close to the same amount of a full Afrika Single/Studebaker set up you could go with a real deal happy trails setup. Which are currently on sale. I wish I saw this before buying my givi racks/givi boxes and used Happy Trails BMW 800 GS boxes. As I'm into it for about that much and haven't found a good way to mount the Happy Trails boxes on the Givi Racks.

Only thing I don't like about the Happy Trail setup is the need to remove or modify the muffler cover. I have an extra one that I could cut up but still.

The HT rack positions whatever pannier you use far enough away from the muffler that the heat shield is irrelevant. Before I got the WH panniers I used plastic Givi cases and never had a heat problem.

Yeah, the muffler is ugly without the shield, but if I cared about looks I wouldn't have bought a V-Strom.

I Don't care that much about looks. However, I have a problem taking off a safety feature. Little hands that are very interested in motorcycles are around. Those little hands aren't don't always think before they touch things.

I actually think the Strom is a good looking bike. I also liked the old honda Sabre's look

I guess really it just makes me think it the racks weren't really designed for the strom or they would have move the rack out another half inch to clear the muffler cover. **note** I don't know this to be fact, it just seems weird to me that they don't make them to clear the muffler.

Yes indeed. Those are the very same boxes with the tradename "Afrika Single" decal on each box.

They are good .080" alloy boxes that are removable by unscrewing two threaded knobs inside the upper margin of each box. Once the knobs are out you can lift the box up, off of the high-density polyethylene L-brackets...which sit on the lower square section rack rail.

This is a slightly crude but simple and very durable set-up. First time I installed one of these kits (in 2004?), I immediately gave it two thumbs up for simplicity and value.
