Default Motorcycle Safety & Group Riding

Finally got my motovlogging setup going, hopefully I can improve on the audio clipping that seems to occur in this video.

Talking about some of the risks and safety issues that come with group riding; feel free to subscribe as I'll be doing regular motovlogs from now on.

Default Good topic - tell us about the tech

I like the issue you raised about group rides and our personal responsibility when riding. Whether we are alone or with others, only we can judge individually what risks are acceptable. We all share responsibility for safety on the streets. Race tracks, trackdays, parking lots closed off to the public are the place to learn skills, push limits and "be brave".
I would like to know about what set-up you used to vlog. I have thought about doing something like this but didn't really know where to start. I didn't really want to post stuff, just really to document some of my travels and share with groups or friends.
Thanks that was interesting.

Here's my newest, just posted it last night, regarding keeping yourself visible while riding:

I'm amazed how quiet your ride seems to be! Even at low speeds I get lots of chain noise and even a noticeable amount of wind noise. What is your windshield (on stock mounts?)?

I'm surprised how well the audio's been working out as well, actually. I think a big part of it is because I use a spare foam from my Scala headset on the mic I'm using (which is stuffed into the chinbar area of my helmet.) Without the foam I had a ton of noise in a prior testing video.

That's the Givi windscreen, model D260ST I believe according to TwistedThrottle. Came with my Wee when I bought it.

Nicely done, indeed!!!

How exactly do you have your camera mounted? Is it around your neck on something similar to a "harmonica holder"?

Devil's Advocate Part: I can't help but wonder, though, how "safe" it is to be talking while riding through urban areas with cages coming at you from all directions. But, then again, I'm not one for doing anything but paying close attention to the task at hand when riding: no Bluetooth, no GPS, no intercom, no tunes. One of the many reasons, I enjoy riding is to get away from all the electronic stimulation that clutters my life.

I'm guessing you wear either a 3/4 or modular helmet (?), otherwise how the heck can you take a swig out of the can in your drink holder while riding?

I'll be doing another video to show my camera setup in the near future; but basically, I have my GoPro2 mounted on the chin-bar, just a bit to the right. Using 3 of the mount brackets in total (it's an awkward setup) to get the proper angles etc. And I do indeed wear a modular helmet (an HJC SyMax III if curious); however, I only drink when parked somewhere, never while actively riding.

A very valid point, as doing anything other than concentrating on the ride itself can reduce reaction time and overall awareness. This is why I try to pick times where I'm not in very heavy traffic and not traveling at high speeds, though sometimes I get an idea in my head and it has to get recorded before I lose it. :P
