Judging by the numbers of absolutely immaculate 990s that you see around here that don't even have a speck of dust on the bike, the full pannier set of the riders KTM branded clothing I would say plenty. Probably a higher proportion than BMW GS bikes actually never seem to be dirty.

True.

However, 150hp could be fun.....with a radar detector !!!

What about fuel mileage ?

The mileages posted on fuelly.com for the 990 Adventure seem to average about 35mpg.

If the 990 averaged 35mpg, what will the 1190 average !!?!

You might want to put some farkles on it, too(panniers, skid plate, etc.).

Insurance ?

Maintainence Costs ?

Bikes like these look pretty cool at first, until you start adding up the costs.

Yeah.........I'm diggin the "little" 2013 690 Duke.......330 Lbs and close to 70 HP.........but with a $8k-$9k price tag.......
KTM's are notorius of being high-$$$ ...........sorta like Beemers, I guess. But lots of folks go out and purchase $8000 KTM dirtbikes every year to race (or just play in the dirt), otherwise KTM couldn't stay in bizness........??

I think this bike is going to be a fail for KTM. They should have stuck with the 990 I tell ya. They had something no other bike manufacturer had. Now they are just another overpriced heavyweight adventure bike.

KTM rarely fails at anything they put their engineers to (unless it has 4 wheels.... ). 150 HP in the dirt is a lot , several honest reviews of the 1200 Explorer knock it off pavement for the same thing. Hard to keep traction at that HP level. I will say this , most of the 990 Adventurers I've seen and had contact with the riders of have been Well used off road. Personally , I love KTM (owned 3 pure dirt) , but as with BMW , the price of admission sort of holds me at bay , like sunlight to a vampire.

Maybe they should have the option to limit the HP like the Multistrada.

I like this bike. I think the 990 is ugly as hell.

The only problem with KTM is waiting on OEM parts to get shipped to you. I ordered some front plastic and a couple small parts for my 640 and it took a month +. That is a long time to sit around and wait.

But the New Adventure does look really nice!

I think your predictions are quite opposite of what will happen.
Many people are looking for a modern adventure bike, that does 90% road, and the rest are gravel roads.
BMW understands that, so does Triumph and Ducati.
The Japanese are still stuck in 2003 (the DL1000 era), offering yesterday's ADV.
I think KTM is going to succeed big time, and cause a lot of pain and misery to BMW.

Regarding your 'heavyweight' arguments - 990 Adventure is 207-209.5 Kg. 1190 Adventure is 212-217 Kg. I really don't think that these 5-8 Kg make the new model 'heavyweight'.
My DL650 is heavier.
