| Other Motorcycles Forum for you to discuss anything about any other motorcycles. Good place for former (and soon to be) V-Strom owners to keep on the site even though they are without a strom. |

Anybody ever owned one? I am just getting ready to go pick up a 1999. I know that valve adjustments are expensive, but wondering how crucial it is to be exactly on schedule with them? The dealer isn`t sure when the last one was done on the bike I am buying. It has 30K and the PO said he had just had the valves done when he traded it in on a new Duc....no way to know though I guess? What if I just wait 6k or so to do it???? Any thoughts or input would be awesome.

We have an owner in our Bike club here and he does his own maintenance. Really knows his stuff. He said there are some dohickys in the valve train that you can replace with alloy steel and you only have to check the valves half as often. If I see him anytime soon I'll ask him what they are and where to get them.

I like ducs a lot. Much more durable than internet bs would have it. Look up Gary Eagan'$ iron butt ezperience with them for a sense of that.
The doohickey mentioned is likely MBP collets. Without documents you don't know when the valves were done. I'd be more worried about the belts, you don't want to break one. Congratulations on the bike.
