| Other Motorcycles Forum for you to discuss anything about any other motorcycles. Good place for former (and soon to be) V-Strom owners to keep on the site even though they are without a strom. |

I want a second bike to ride about the bush with my son and even ride to work 10 minutes through traffic to save having to fire up the Vee. I would like a drz400, DR650 or a KLR650 or something smaller. It got me wondering, what do other Strom riders have that they ride. I don't mean that bike that you ride once a year, I mean really ride. I have no doubt this is a thread already done somewhere so feel free to point me in the right direction.

I have a Ram Hemi, sold off the other bikes as I got tired of maintaining and insuring the others. Not that its expensive, but it seemed like every-time I turned around I was due for taxes/tags/insurance renewal or had a part to chase after. But if I was going to pick up another bike for an extra it either be a GS, FJR, YAMA's Tene Dual Sport, or maybe even a buzzy little scooter to tear up and destroy playing with

I have a 2005 Vee and a 2005 Kawasaki KLR650. I have put 25k plus miles on the KLR in the last 2 1/2 years or so. My wife also rides a 2006 KLR 650.
The KLR is great for just about everything. The smaller DRZ400 will be better off road but the KLR will be much better on the pavement stretches and gravel roads IMO. Mostly depends on how rough off road you want to ride and your off road experience. You will find many Vee owners that have a KLR. I have a friend who also has a Vee and a KLR650. A KLR will go anywhere will the right rider. I have a KLR bc I would not take my vee here: ![]()

Don't you just hate it when the bike poops out on you like that? Tell that lazy KLR to get off its ass....errr, gas tank...and get back on the trail. It can flop down for a rest when you get back to the garage.

Just another fun road bike, one that is easy to work on (but hasn't needed much, knock on wood!). The GS and the VStrom take turns during most of the riding season; I ride the old bike one week, the newer one the next. However, once it gets colder (like now, in November) I drain the carbs on the GS and just ride the V.

My other scoot is a 2006 KLX250S. The engine now is a 351. This bike has taken me over elephant Hill in Moab and over the Paiute Trails in Utah. I commute 70 miles round trip year around and use the KLX for the commute about once a week. It's also taken me on a combined SS1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours) and BB1500 (1500 miles in 36 hours) ride.

I'm not real sure which one is my 2nd bike, but my "other" bike is my '98 Honda Valkyrie which I bought new in '98. It sits in the garage with all zeros showing on the odometer. I try to ride it and the '08 Wee equally. They have both been farkled to make them coast to coast comfortable. The price of gas has me using the Wee a bit more lately. 58mpg vs about 35.
