Default Why a Vee over a 1200gs?

Other than the large price difference why would you choose the Vee or Wee for that matter over a 1200gs? I've heard they are difficult to work on.. BMW.. Bring more wrenches. Can anyone here give some specific examples.

I sold my 2011 GSA and bought a 2012 Wee Adventure. My primary motivators were much better reliability (important to me), better around town manners, easier to manage off road (because of the weight advantage) and 90% as capable/competent for long hauls (IMHO). I don't work on my own bikes so I can't speak to ease of maintenance. However that's also why reliability is very important to me. I have historically been classified as a typical BMW guy. I've owned more than 20 Beemers in the last 10 years so I'm not bashing the brand. However, I love my Wee and don't regret the transition from the GSA one bit. In fact, i'm not sure I'll own another BMW until the stats prove that the company's quality has vastly improved.

Well, BMW's reliability reputation has taken some pretty big hits over the last few years.
On an anecdotal level, I've got a buddy who did an Alaska trip in '09, all the way to Prudhoe Bay. At the time he owned a 1200 GSA and a Vee. He took the Vee. Just didn't trust the BMW.
The guy who went with him took an 1150 GS. Guess which bike had a failure.

I've ridden both of their bikes, nothing about either one of that I like better than my Wee.

Seems you answered your own questions, and the web is full of stories and examples. Notice how there are allot of "ex" BMW owners that now ride Stroms?

What he said. The only differences being I owned 4 in the last 10 years and the last was a 2007. No regrets. In fact, I gained peace of mind.

Truthfully I would rather have a GS, I've had them before, not really afraid of their reliability. I don't have one because I didn't have $20k to pop this time around and mainly wanted a bike I could knock around and not feel bad if it got dropped.
The Strom is a good bike but it is what it is, a relatively budget bike with suspension and brakes to prove it that performs adequately in all areas, spectacularly in none. It manages through its mediocority to become more than the sum of its parts in many ways and is thus definitely worth owning.

For me (apart from price) it was access to a dealer. BMW is 2 hours away and Suzuki is around the corner.I think that's probably the case wherever you go, especially south of the border.

Same reason I didn't buy a Multistrada.

Which is proving to be very reliable.
