I didn't see a mpg quote........?? The Trump 800 is 100 lbs lighter, but only has a range of 150 miles or so based on 40 mpg. The 1200 holds over 5 gallons........hopefully can go 175-200 miles before a fill-up?? Personally, I don't see a need for something this large (cc's) unless riding two-up, fully loaded?? I rode the 800 last year at Bike Week........it was NICE!!!!! Maybe they will have this one down there in 2 weeks, but I doubt it??

I didn't get to test ride the Explorer but I did get to fondle it.

I really wanted to like it and thought it to be a contender for my money until I sat on it. I just didn't 'feel' it and it felt heavier when moving the bike around from side to side while keeping it between my knees, interesting considering they are near identical in weight. Hmmm...my wee feels heavier than the S10 too in that manner...

Anyway, the competetion in this segment is growing and that's a good thing for everyone's 'choices'.

Personal preference is a wonderful thing. I never ride two-up, but I found a need for two 1200cc bike. It's great seeing more bikes moving into this market. Keep 'em coming.

I have spoken to plenty of 800 riders who all claim to get very close to 200 miles from a tank. Generally 320-350 km, 200 miles = 360 km.

The wife wants nothing to do with riding on the back of the Strom so replacing the trusty Road King is a option but I sure like the Explorer for myself.

a lot of Triumph folks are pretty excited about the 1200 and it does have some awesome features, very powerful engine, stout electrical system for lots of gew gaws, cruise, shaft, on and on.
I've owned two tigers, an '06 955i and the current 1050. I like Triumphs quite a bit and they learn with each model. They also sometimes do some really dorky things and don't address the issue. The borderline dangerous headlights of the 1050 come to mind as an example. On the 955i the weak charging system was a bit of a problem if you like accessories.
Nevertheless the triples are spectacular engines, very easy to ride at everything from idle to redline, typically quite smooth. I also really like our local dealer and enjoy doing business with them which in and of itself might make me a repeat customer.
I think the 1250 is going to be a little bigger and heavier than I want. The 1050 already is at the upper end of weight and I only recently got mine pretty well sorted so I'm inclined to keep it for a while. The 1250 would also defeat my purpose with the 650 Strom of having a relatively inexpensive pack mule for rougher country. The idea of having the 1050 get dropped in dirt is enough, a near $16k bike is a bit much for me at the moment.

My friend rides a Tiger 800xc and he gets the exact same milage as my Vstrom 650. Usally the same to the 10th of a gallon when we fuel up. Well over 200 miles per tank range. Usally 50-55 mpg.
