If you want something more "sports-tour" oriented without the shaft drive and weight, the Suzuki GSX1250FA (Bandit w ABS and a GSX-R look fairing) seems to be a great bang-for-the buck choice and at 560 lbs is lighter than the mega-tourers.

Really interesting to see how different magazines rank the same bikes.
Motorcycling.com ranks the Z1000 last(or at least behind the Speed Triple) and gives it a 119hp rating.

Look at the Goodies GIVI makes for it ! Dig that crazy windscreen !

Easy, get a Super Tenere. If you love your Vee you will not be disappointed.

I'm looking at the Ninja 1000, so how it compares to naked bikes is immaterial to me.

The way most people use them, there should be a comparison with the S10 or 1200GS and the Ninja 1000 ABS. But that will never happen.

FWIW, I think the NINJA 1000 and Z1000 have the same engine, but the NINJA has a rev-limiter. I presume it is more comfortable than the 1000, and with better wind protection.

An even bigger point of interest to me is the MPG of these two bikes. Here's the mpg guide Kawasaki has for their bikes:

MPG - Kawasaki.com

They list the NINJA & Z1000 at 41mpg, if you choose to trust it. Not sure if that is city or HWY.
My guess is that you'll be dropping down in the 30's if you ride either bike hard.

I think that red & black looks sharp.
