Default Honda's "Wee"

It looks like somebody at Honda noticed how well the WeeStrom is doing and decided to go after a piece of the mid-displacement, lower-cost market. Similar in performance, probably a bit less expensive, their new NC700S and NC700X even looks like the Wee:

The "gas tank" storage area is a slick setup, but I wonder how much fuel fits in the under-seat tank. The fuel mileage is remarkable; they're claiming almost 80 mpg!

Looks like they are reverting back to the Nighthawk days..........??? Appears to be mostly a "street only" scoot........no place for a rear rack?? Panniers?? I'm sure it's a great bike (hey, it's from Honda), but I don't see it being much of a threat to us......... Now, the Honda Cross-dresser could be getting closer to the ADV crowd?? (I said "closer".......not there yet)

That's because it has less than 50hp... Not worth the gas savings in my opinion... Nice bike otherwise...

Must be a Shadow motor, tuned to within a hair of grenading.

I, for one, am happy to see street offerings that can provide alternatives to the liter bike/race rep culture. Good luck to 'em.

Nice enough looking bike, but I'm a bit put off by Honda's intentional neutering in order to get the high mpg numbers........the thing does not rev very high.

I did blunder upon some internet site where they found the missing rev's and horsepower, and the mileage dropped into the expected range of 40-50mpg....nuthin' new here folks.

Default Some details:

It is using the same engine and chassis as the Integra scooter/motorcycle hybrid, so the scooter comments aren't too far off the mark. Here's some more information about the engine itself.

The underseat tank holds 14.1 liters or about 3.72 US gallons, which would translate to a range of just under 300 miles if the 80mpg figure were accurate (Honda itself is claiming closer to 65 mpg for the DCT version.)

The NC700X and NC700S will be coming to Canada for 2012 and their North American debut will be at the Toronto Motorcycle Show next Friday.

Ash's take on the bike..

Honda NC700X | Ash On Bikes

It's just an all rounder bread and butter bike, but in normal use is pretty cheap to run.

Don't expect Ohlins suspension quality.

And the interesting thing is Ash made a comment about some of the reviewers. I wonder whether it was the MCN bloke he had in mind..

Ash...

.....on the bike’s press presentation in Portugal there was a clear polarisation of opinions between those journalists who ‘got’ the NC700X and those who didn’t. The latter complained about constantly hitting the rev limiter as they were searching for power at the top of the rev range, but with the NC, you have the power already and immediately at much lower revs – there’s no looking to do, it’s in your face.

the engine produces decent torque between 1000 and 4000rpm. But it revs out at 6500rpm so just when you think it’s going to get going there’s nothing.

That's an interesting bike. I love the storage in the gas tank. The HP numbers are a little low. I wonder how it handles....
