My old girl - Stromtrooper Forum : Suzuki V-Strom Motorcycle Forums
Other Motorcycles Forum for you to engage in banter about other motorcycles. Good place for former (and soon to be) V-Strom owners to keep on the site even though they are without a Strom. This is not a tech forum on other bikes. There are other sites for that.

My old girl

Short clip of my 1963 R69S. It has been in my family for about 46 years. This winter I decided to give her some love and went through the electrical system with a new wiring harness, new points and condenser, all rubber mounts on the entire bike replaced, rebuilt the Bings and gave her a tune up. Just got it running a couple of evenings ago. I will be riding her again this summer as soon as this snow melts and the rain washes the salt off the roads.

Thanks guys for the nice comments. My sister originally bought the bike in the early seventies, she was around the age of 20, and road it from Tucson to Iowa to Washington State and back with a girlfriend whom was ridding a Suzuki water buffalo. They camped about half the time while on the road. My sister has some great stories. In 2010 I rode my GS 1200 from Ithaca to Tucson and my sister gifted the bike to me. I hauled both bikes back from Tucson to Ithaca in a Ryder truck. It has been sitting in my basement since it arrived in 2010 and I finally decided to get it running and in daily ridable shape.

Here is a picture of my sister in Iowa on the bike.

Not sure if I can make NEVA on any bike this year. I will be riding this bike this summer around NY state and, if it proves dependable, Pennsylvania. I have never put more than about 50 miles on this bike on any one ride. I rode it in Tucson back and forth, some 17 years ago, for about a year when I was teaching at a middle school that was round trip 50 miles and then only rode it about once a week. My sister last rode it probably 30 years ago. It sat in a Tucson garage unridden for some 15 years. I never experienced any failure but I am leery due to the fact that I have almost zero ride time on it and I ride usually by myself. I don't want to be pushing it home from the Catskills! The BMW is going to need time to dial in. Just tuning and syncing the Bing carbs is a pain in the ass art and I have a lot to learn. I don't want to make a mistake and run either cylinder too lean or overly rich for that matter. Not a simple process for me. I also do not know anyone near me who has solid experience with these bikes. A lot of reading/research, trial and error, and patience.
