Default Upgraded Membership - it's about time!

I've been lurking around this site since I bought my Wee in late 2009. I damn near got 500 posts now and have read HOURS upon HOURS of extremely useful replies from very knowledgeable and like minded motorcyclists that have a passion for the same bike I do. Now how good IS THAT!!??

This being the case I just upgraded my membership with nothing more than a few easy button pushes and mouse clicks. It was about time... well overdue in fact.

If you haven't already done so please consider supporting this site with a membership upgrade. Yeah, your signature picture is bigger, and you get a few more bells-and-whistles and whatnot, but your membership upgrade also helps out an incredibly useful website by supporting the behind the scenes stuff.

Start the year off right with a small and well deserved nudge towards OUR stromtrooper.com website. No guilt trips, no bad names, no hard feelings. Just a consideration.

P.S. - No, I don't work for the site nor am I bound to it in anyway whatsoever. I'm just a regular guy that happens to ride a motorcycle.

Thanks,

Dennis

Dennis, not to take the wind out of your sails but exactly whom behind the scenes do you believe is the beneficiary of your donation?

Your enthusiasm would be admirable if this was a privately owned site where perhaps the founder and a handful of trusted individuals/members payed for and maintained this site out of their own pockets and sought out donations to help keep the lights on but that's not the case as far as I know it.

This place is owned by VerticalScope. They own over 400 websites and their sites collectively have over 350 million page views and 50 million viewers per month. What does VerticalScope do with all of that, they sell the hell out of it to huge advertisers as you can clearly see the signs of on every page. They are a for-profit organization and if this place wasn't profitable, they'd have shut it down or sold it off a long time ago.

If paying the money to get some extra bells and whistles is worth it to a member, that's fine, but don't be disillusioned in thinking you're really making a difference in keeping the lights on or supporting the membership here. It's all VerticalScope and their hundreds of millions of dollars in annual ad sales.

And I thought I was doing some good...

I'd been better off hitting up the street performers.

It's kinda like giving money to CBS thinking your donating to PBS. The best way to support the site by supporting the site sponsors. Don't give money directly to the "network" (unless the additional features are worth it to you).

Make sure it's not chocolate though. If memory serves me right his digestive tract can't handle it

Pat, I've made a well intended and heart felt donation to some unknown, nameless, could-care-less website conglomerate in your name. There... now I fell a bit better about it.

BTW, this reminds me of the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) annual donation drive that I've participated in while serving in the Military. The brochures listed the expenses of the companies. Some of those companies have operating expenses and overhead that account for 60-70 percent of all monies collected. So much for your honest donation going to the actual cause you intended it too.

I have no problem giving to something that provides good to me. It doesn't matter much who owns it. I did reduce my donation when Brendan sold the site though.

Would be nice, but I honestly think those concepts are completely foreign. Perhaps because the older crowd is less understanding, tolerant or flexible of the changing audience? Or they simply don't get it. Or care. Who knows.

I think the best one can do is to simply kill a subscription/donation, eat the extra ads, enjoy the site and carry on.

On another note: Best wishes and safe rides to everyone this new year.
