conversations drift, sometimes in strange directions. it's the way we humans are. when they do, it's ok to let them.

i'm not advocating absolute free reign. and yes adv is moderated, but a damn sight less than here. folks that get banned on adv are absolute nutjobs or intentionally break the rules to screw around after being warned.

i think my posts have been pretty much pg-13 but several nice folks here (not mods) have informed me via private means that even PM's are monitored here!!! monitoring PM's????? i guess the word PRIVATE doesn't mean much.

now, i'm not advocating using the PM service for illegal or immoral stuff.

anyway, i've said my piece.

PMs are not monitored. They can be a source of problems if we get a complaint but we do not check them. Unless somebody clicks the report private message button we won't see it.

I for one like a clean no-nonsense site to garner information.

I go to other sites once in a while to spend a few hours digging through BS to find a small nugget of information I can simply ask and receive here in a few min.

If I want political BS I can go to a thousand sights, If I want Boobies there are a million. If I want Strom info, This is my destination. I subscribe but moreso I do 2 thinks to help this site 1) I answer questions if I'm on and i KNOW the answer. 2) I DONT answer questions if I DONT KNOW the answer.

Sometimes a bad answer is worse than no answer at all. Thats what you get elsewhere.

that my $2.53 adjusted for inflation, taxes, shipping and paypal fees. You net 2 cents.

Remember, Opinion are like *, Everyone has one, And its usually dripping ...misinformation.

ADVrider - not moderated? Check again...

What is funny is that all kinds of assumptions are presented as fact, and then arguments are based of those facts, such as PM's being monitored. Does anyone seriously think the VOLUNTEER moderators here have the time to monitor hundreds of PM's even if it where possible?
I recommend some fact checking before statements are made.

Well I am a cranky old libertarian now.

I agree against MOST political discussions on this board

HOWEVER

Your friendly neighborhood government has and is still trying to intrude their oppressive regulations in to most of our lives AND occasionally something that does potentially influence motorcycling present or future. Additionally there are groups that wake up every day trying to force their ideas on the motorcycling public.

Is or is it not a good function of the community site to bring these topics up for a discussion.

I think that when everything is said and done most of us get good value out of this site.

I have made some friends that are and will be lifelong friends as a result of conversations and events that started here,

I have learned a pile of stuff from threads here.

I have saved a ton of money from tips that I learned here.

And I have been freed from some tight jams by people that post here.

I have had a few little complaints about some of the moderation but for the most part the mods here do a great job of keeping this board going. They are only human after all and I have found are responsive to our questions/challenges if we ask them. I am a moderator on another board and know how hard it can be so, even though I have bitched a few times, my hat goes off to the hard work the mods do here.

I can't see how I can begrudge the present owners from making money from this site.

..Tom

If it's about motorcycles, it fits.

Read again. I said "practically not moderated."

Default moderators

I'm a newbie, but love this forum for the reasons some of you have stated. I appreciate the friendly and helpful culture, and the fairly narrow focus on V-Stroming. If I had to wade through a bunch of other junk, I would quit visiting. I encourage the moderators to keep running a tight ship and let other forums do the ranting and raving.
I also agree that the most valuable answers to questions are those where someone actually has the experience to the answer the question, instead of just speculating.
Moderators, keep up the good work, the rest of us appreciate it a ton!
