Default Lusting after mysterious foreigner

I've been pouring over materials on the Triumph Speed Triple. That bike could make me unfaithful to the other bikes in my life. I like the minimalist, unique (weird, odd) styling and overall sporting build. I rode a buddies GSXR1000 this year and don't know if I could do those ergos anymore. Does anyone have experience with this bike? Help, save me from myself.

No specific experience with that model bot i've had three Triumphs, a 955i daytona, 955i Tiger and my current 1050 Tiger. I'm a big fan of the triple motor, love the smooth power curve and soun of the triple. I also think Triumph does a great job with styling and attention to detail.

here is a review

oops, this is the R model. Well, regardless, most of the photos I saw when I searched Triumph Speed Triple were of riders in leathers. Are the ergonomics really any better than the typical crotch rocket?

Yes, they are. Not ridden the Speed Triple but I have tested the Street Triple which is a very similar bar and peg relationship but a smaller, more compact bike. Its quite comfortable for me at 6'0" . There is some forward lean but nothing like clip ons and the pegs are somewhat rear set, but not uncomfortably so. It was very similar to my SV650 and SV1000, both of which were pleasant to ride.

I rode a sportbike this past Saturday. Found the ergo's a little tough for an old fart like me (I am 61). Glad I was riding it for a friend that was considering buying it as I wouldn't have purchased it because of the ergo's. He is a young one (29) so I gave it a thumbs up for him. It is only a year old and in great shape mechanically and rides like it is on rails. He is going to love it (picks it up on Tuesday).

So, to make a long story a little longer, that Triumph is supposed to be a really good bike. If your body can handle the ergo's and you think it will put a smile on your face then pick it up. You do know that this life is not a dress rehearsal (I noticed your sig), don't have regrets when you are old and rattling towards the finish line.

I have test ridden a 2011 and it handled great. Not sure why people think the ergos are agressive; they are pretty upright IMO. Could be an issue if you have long legs maybe, but you can always get rearsets or a lowering kit.

As others have said, the 1050 triple is a pretty sweet engine that you will love. Great sound and super flat torque. I've heard it said this bike will bring out the hooligan in you, so you will have to watch your mirrors if you get one!

I rode a Sprint for four years with the same engine (slightly less HP) and even though heavier and with a more aggressive riding position, I preferred my Sprint for the looks and the plastic wrapper and luggage.

If you test a Speed Triple, you should also test the Street Triple. My friend liked the 675 more than the 1050, and he owns a Sprint 1050.
