You owe your Baby 2 Million in 20 year term life insurance

Then make sure to tell the wife to get back in shape in a hurry as she may have to bag herself another man

There is always the argument that you are saving money that will be needed to buy formula, diapers, sleep aids, etc by riding the bike instead of taking the car/truck. Just make sure you ride safe. ATGATT will help sell your commitment to staying alive to watch the baby grow up. On a more cynical note, this is one of those times where you have to stand up for yourself or you risk dropping into the "I live my life based upon other people's fears and problems" hole. Good luck.

I've had no babies in my sidecar. My wife and 2 dogs, yes.

Started my sons at a early ege riding their Honda XR50R's. We basically rode a bunch on the weekends when the weather was good. After a couple of years I started racing and so did they. Now, they are on to better things but they had a blast growing up with ole' dad.
If you were like me you will be looking for something to do with your children whether it is a boy or girl. Riding at MC park is always great entertainment!
So, this shouldn't necessarily be the end of motorcycling but hopefully the beginning of another chapter.

ATGATT, and become the best motorcyclist you can. Take safety courses and then take them again. Do your reading and practice "roadcraft" while out on the bike. Learn to recognize the dangers and pitfalls that often catch many people unprepared.

Life insurance = always a good thing.

As for the advice of your good intention coworkers and family members, just pat them on the shoulder and thank them for their concern.... even if they themselves exhibit unhealthy lifestyles such that are completely avoidable, like smoking, excessive weight, idleness, etc...

I am 43 years old, have three children under 18 years old, I am the primary bread winner,etc... all these things go a long ways in helping me make sure I practice good "roadcraft".

I have no plans to stop riding, and there has been no pressure from my wife or family to stop (yes, I am lucky).
Whether you hunt, fish, go bowling or play in a rock band, once the baby comes it's usually a matter of available cash and free time.
A fellow by the name of Ken Condon seemed to do just fine mixing motorcycling & raising a family.
It's this Ken Condon: Riding in the Zone

So let me ask you NWArkie, if you did stop riding, when is the magic age that you would be able to start riding again? When the baby turns four? or twelve? or maybe eighteen?
People that don't ride don't have a clue.
I have been a Dad with a fine wife & two kids for over 20 years. The bikes in my garage have never caused a problem.

Another thought for you NWArkie...
Eventually your child will be old enough to street ride two-up with you. At what precise age does that occur?
Well O.K. I'm being cynical here so I'll answer the question for you: It occurs when the child's physical size allows you to properly fit her in the same high quality ATGATT stuff that you wear. For my daughter it was at about 14.

BTW: If you like the dirt, outstanding protective equipment starts at about age six.
So next time one of your co-workers asks if you are going to give up motorcycling you can say: Heck no! I'm making room in the garage for a second bike!

Congratulations on the coming child.
It only gets better from here on!

Regards,
-Ej-

Babies are not the end of motorcycling. My son loved to ride on my dirt bike when he was small. My grandson is just getting started although his dad is more into four wheelers. Kids add to your life if you simply continue to live it instead of putting it on hold.

My grandson Evan. Age 3 (No he did not ride it without gear)

I used to put the kid in front of me on the VFR I had when he was a toddler. We only rode around the neighborhood with his tiny bike helmet on. When he got big enough to wear a DOT helmet and sit on back, he became a very adept passenger. I'd forget he was back there.

Now he's a big lump of a teenager and too damn heavy to ride backseat, and too young to get his own bike.
