Default what kind of bike is this?

Hello all. Friend sent me this picture this afternoon telling me the girl who owns it wants it out of her garage after 2 yrs. She wants 500 bucks for it. I have no other information because I haven't spoke with my friend yet. I can not tell what kind of bike this is though. She says it is a 1000cc. I can see the Suzuki emblem, but thats it. Happy Thanksgiving all!!

Of the Katanas that looked like that, Suzuki NEVER made a 1000. They did make an 1100, but it looked totally different than that bike. Those Katana's from the 90's all looked alike. I'm guessing that this one is a 600cc (or 750cc) - only reason being is that Suzuki used red on the 600 version a lot more than it did for the 750 version. It could also be a 750 (suzuki used the same 750 motor for the 600, but had smaller pistons, saved em the trouble of making a whole new motor for the 600). The motors are pretty bulletproof.

One giveaway is the dark rims.......the 1992 katana 750 had dark rims....?

Either way, for 500 bux, it could be cheap thrills.

500 buckeroos? Can I have it?

I think it is an early-90s GSX500F

This is a 91 model:

My wife had a 600. When working on the carbs one time, I decided to give it a test ride. When it hit the power band, the pucker factor went up 6 fold. It was like someone added 6 cylinders.

For $500 it doesn't matter what kind of bike it is. Get it. Cheap fun and/or resale value.

Does it have a title ?

If not, for $500 it's probably hot.

Thanks for the responses. I think you guys are right about it being a gsx. I won't know anything else about it until sometime next week. I am in line behind my friend to purchase it. If he can't produce the 5 and/or doesn't want it I will buy it if it has a title and such. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!

Go get it.

This is a mid-90s 600 Katana / GSX600F. They were produced from the late 80s for about ten years. The earlier ones tended to feature the Suzuki barf-of-colours paint schemes The solid colour scheme on this one suggests it was made later in the production run. The 750s had a one piece seat. The 600s had the two piece design seen in the picture. Suzuki did a redesign on the 600 and 750 variants in the late 90s.

The engine is an air/oil cooled derivative of the GSXR line. It is quite bulletproof and very smooth. I suspect you could change the oil, plugs and air and oil filters and it would run like a top.

The bike was a parts-bin special built to a price to answer a gap in the market for mid-sized sporting motorcycles that weren't just streetable race bikes. But don't let the budget-mindedness fool you. This bike is certainly capable of canyon carving, commuting, or weekend sport-touring with some hard or soft luggage on it.

Let us know how this works out.

I had a '92 600 it was a great bike except for the puke graphics and pink, yes I said pink, rims. Re jetted the carb and added a Vance & Hines and would hit 160 real easy.
