Actually I had a complaint about the GL1500 I used to own. It wasn't anything regarding quality or performance, but of limitations. A bike that heavy and bulky is basically single-purpose, that of highway or decent road touring. In very tight quarters, in stop and go traffic, or on unpaved surfaces like gravel detours it was more of a burden than a freedom machine.

Sounds like you might be in the market for a V-Strom.

Another one? Hmmm....you may be on to something there. Keep my '08 ABS model for touring and everyday use, and get another to modify.

Maybe chromed out and with a peanut tank and ape hangers in maxi-cruiser style. Or stripped down to cafe racer simplicity. Or maybe a sidehack? It's a blank canvas..why not work on it?

Which raises a question: which of the inmates here has done the most extreme mods to their Wee or Vee? I'd like to see some pics.

I had one, an 1800 (also had a 1500 at one time) except for the crummy suspension that makes it ride like a lumber truck, cramped ergonomics that you can't do much about, cracking frames on the earlier years its a good bike.
Nothing is perfect and everything has its limitations.
