I also think reflective yellow jackets are stupid (refer back to the poser thread), but that doesn't mean I will ever tell you not to buy one. To each their own.

Well, I didn't intend this to be pro vs. con Harley-themed thread, but more a meditation on whether to take a wild flyer on a car-for-bike trade.

As it turns out the Harley guy has gone AWOL, but I have been getting a number of other offers, both cars and bikes. None of them have hit the sweet spot yet (a Goldwing is still my main target) but the initiative has been a lot of fun just to consider some of the "what if" possibilities. I think I'll expand my CL net to the SF Bay area and see what interesting offers that might attract.

Machines, I mean. Not "personal services."

That is so typical of those Harley posers!

Go for the Goldwing, those people are much more reliable, you can always catch them at Dennys for the early-bird dinner special.

I think you quite accurately predicted the trajectory of this thread in your title.

Unless it was a masterful stroke of Harley basher baiting.

Nuh-uh. I think I would have actually pulled the trigger on the deal.

If a Harley owner criticizes his own bike is he a 1) Harley basher; 2) Harley bashee; or 3) Harley basheree?

BUT, given a great sunny day to take a great cruise, or ride, I would never even give the strom a first look. I prefer the "ride" experience on my harley in every way. Its a motorcycle that's been designed and built to enjoy. Vs. The strom that is a budget bike, built with a function and purpose. It's a good bike, and I enjoy it, but just cause its got two wheels doesn't make it family. Do the trade and make up your mind. You won't lose anything, but you'll gain a new perspective, and that's what lifes all about.

I NEVER listen to the advice of anybody who has anything bad to say, and I highly scrutinize anybody that has good advice.

Well said, thats pretty much how I view my Dyna and the Strom. For that matter its pretty close to how I view the Dyna and just about any other bike. May not make sense in the abstract but it is how I feel.

I have to admit that I am no better than an amatuer when it comes to baiting.
There are however a whole bunch of people on here who are master baiters.

MikeB,
Post your desired trade to the gl1800riders forum and the goldwingfacts forum.
If you make your desired trade then you'll likely join there anyway.

Maybe you can catch the GL rider that's getting too old before he puts a third wheel on the GL.

Just a thought.

Good thought, Henery. I used to be on the GW forum, so maybe I'm still a member in good standing.

This went exactly as I envisioned. Some helpful advice from open minded Harley Owners and some needless drivel from the haters of all bikes non strom.

I sold my King. Not because I didn't like it but because I was ready for a change. I go through bikes like shoes. Every now and then I find a pair of boots I like and wear them out. The strom is in that category. For the money its a super deal.

I would buy another HD in a heartbeat. But right now I am down to one insurance payment.
