My source of information (the only correct one, Twinkipedia.com) says this quoteshould be attributed to Samuel Langhorne Clemens.
Dang it, I completely forgot about him.

The current owners of Hostess Brands are vulture investors (a.k.a. Distressed debt investors)., including Monarch Alternative Capital, LP, the outfit that bought the Hicks debt in the 2010 financial distress of the Texas Rangers baseball team. If the didn't get their money (according to their figures about $600mil), then they'd force the team into bankruptcy and sale to the highest bidder, not necessarily the best-for-baseball bidder. The other major owner is Silver Point Capital LP, lesser known, but the same bore & stroke as Monarch. The vulture investors are interested in only maximizing the gain to their investors. For example, the Seattle bakery property is worth more as the building site for an office tower than the value of profits from Twinkies and Wonder Bread.

Back to the original posting in this thread. The link was from a Fox source. On November 8, 2012, David Frum, a speech writer for Pres. GWBush, said, "Republicans have been fleeced, exploited, and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex...." This was on Morning Joe, hosted by Republican former Congressman Joe Scarborogh. One would be wise to double check anything from any source, including Faux.
This is so, well.....typical.
Thank God you are here to post this because I don't think I would ever know the real truth about what media sources to believe. In fact, I am going to copy and paste your post to every one I know including other forums that I frequent so that we will all know just what the hell is going on in the world.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Do you have a different goal when you invest your hard earned money? "No, Mr. Investor guy, please don't take my money and make 11% for me, I'd much rather you make 6% for me." Interesting investment tactic. I don't think I could afford to follow that advice.

The point being made is that the only point of view of those who raid and destroy these companies is immediate gain. They can walk away with their pockets full while the rest of us end up paying unemployment benefits to the former workers. This is damaging to the overall economy and thus to the country although, yes, a small group benefits from it. You are apparently unaware that some investors prefer to put their money into companies with the intent to grow the enterprise and share in continuing profits instead of a momentary windfall, a process which benefits all.

For the life of me I can't understand why some people applaud greedy vultures who profit at the expense of their fellow citizens and throw the burden on the rest of us. It's short-sighted, selfish and unpatriotic. You probably think it's a good idea to stash those gains in the Cayman Islands, too, like some other recently famous well-known "investor."

On unions,

I was a miner of a union when I first started in the workforce. As a beginner I was a utility worker while waiting for an aprenticship. I was injured on the job and the day I was released I went to the union hall to let them know I was ready to go back to work. I was told it was good timeong because the job had just put on a 3rd shift. I went to the job site and was told my job had been filled. I found out 2 days later that the shop stewards son had filled my position. My grievance was denied.

After getting into the apprenticeship program and doing my hours and class time. The day I got my journeymen cert I was later off because there were no journeymen openings.

I worked for the union for about another year beeping 3-5 week stints on horrible jobs because back then you got unemployment insurance while between jobs without having to look for work.

In 1996 I quit the union and went to work for a non union company.... I still work here.
