Default Canadian Twinkies

Yep, we'll still have Twinkies here.

I'm gonna become a Twinkie smuggler.

Place your orders in Spank.

I'll collect the orders after I get some more rolling papers...

.
BTW, Janice
. . . Thanks for the salary details of the Top Execs in Twinkiedom.

Possibly Canadians do not have [or much use?] the term "Snouts in the Trough" ~ but it is a British phrase which needs very little translation at all to be thoroughly appreciated.

"Snouts in the Trough" clearly has a wide reference in many societies, and easily develops in any situation where the office-holders have scant regulation to inhibit them, and also have zero moral self-regulation.
OTOH, some others may feel that the King of Twinkiedom deserves 4 times the salary of the American Prez.

My current favourites are the Top Guys in the Transocean corporation, who [according to mainstream media reports] soon after the big oil leakage in the Mexican Gulf, agreed to vote themselves (in addition to their multimillion dollar "regular wage") some further bonuses in the the multimillion dollar range also. They got not just one such bonus each . . . but two or three of such hefty "bonuses" (all being named with lovely different labels).

Why did they do so?
Easy : simply because they had an ongoing sense of entitlement, and the money was in easy reach with nobody to inhibit them.
But at least they weren't cutting their own workers' wages at the same time !

Not that many of "us" have absolutely clean hands. (If I may use such a broad brush to so paint a whole bunch of "middle-class" Strommers.)
Not while there is so much dire poverty in the world.
Perhaps a half-excuse . . . in that we are not meeting that condition every day in our workplaces.

All these problems cannot be solved in a Twinkling . . . but each of us ought to be making some efforts.
(And please pardon my Pontifi-Caking.)

Man there's a lot of envy going on around here. It's a sad day when so many people deride those who have busted their ass, worked hard within the existing system, and achieved the top ranks of their industry. Instead of being celebrated as a model of how to reach goals, they are called mean, heartless and many worse things by those who did not have the same drive, ambition, guts or goals that they had. No, these jealous souls instead project their own situation upon the achievers and say they were "given" all their stature by some lucky twist of fate, which is the only way a person consumed by jealously could ever stumble into such a level.

I am not a wealthy guy. But I will never condemn someone who worked harder, smarter, longer, or risked more than me to end up with vastly more monetary success than I've had. I will applaud them for their drive, and look to see if there are any lessons I can learn from their experience. And I'll sure as hell will not teach my daughter that envy and jealously are virtuous.

Believe me, dirt Dad, corporate America appreciates your ringing endorsement every bit as much as Osama bin Laden welcomed those willing to become martyrs for his cause while he declined to do so himself. Lenin (or perhaps Stalin, it's not clear from the record) coined the best phrase to describe those who applaud their own exploitation: "Useful idiots."

And BTW, if you had spent any time rubbing elbows with these captains of industry I guarantee you would not be so admiring of them. Many are fine people, of course, just as in any segment of the population. But they have not worked harder or smarter or risked more than cops, soldiers, NASA scientists, nurses, elementary school teachers or any other of a thousand occupations that do not hold out opportunity for amassing great wealth. They have simply placed their entire focus on one thing -- making money. Which means taking it out of your pocket and mine and putting it into their own. How you find nobility in that I cannot fathom.

Sorry DirtDad. The successful have been permanently vilified. It's never going away. It's the basis for wealth redistribution. Fasten your seat belt.

Ever since Jesus, anyway:
"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:24

But hey, what did He know. The poor schmuck was obviously green with jealousy of those rich Pharisees.

Awesome!

First we get politics then religion in this thread, all we need is some sex and we'll have a trifecta.

By the way, I probably won't be around to add to this festering melange, as I have a motorcycle with a full tank of gas and the sun is shining.

Not necessarily envy but a realistic look at what they do.
Look at this Hostess situation. From what I understand of it, the top folks there had every intention of shutting this business down for a long time. To do that they suggested that their employees take some VERY heavy pay cuts that they probably knew would be unacceptable. When the employees balked and did the only thing they could do, strike, the company shuts the business down citing high employee costs, thus trying to shift the blame to the employees. This allows them to move the business to some place where they can get labor for far less or sell it to someone who will.
Thus you see the tactics of business. There is nothing especially evil about it, just how things are done.
BTW, if you're so worried about envy and jealousy, where is your outrage about those who think that Union people are the most evil thing ever for trying to further their own positions as they best can?
