Default You had better be prepared!!!!!!

It happen, on the last of our 5 day trip to Tucson, the wife got a flat rear tire on her bike, first problem was we were downtown Tucson and had to find a place to park. Called nearest bike shop this was 3:30 PM and asked if they could fix a tire, they said yes,so out came the slime an a compressor and it was rideable. It was Musselman Honda and it was fixed by 6 PM. We rode back to Bouse AZ the next day we did over 1K the 5 days we were there. Nice to find a GOOD shop willing to help out.Don:t know how far you could ride on the slimed tire, any one had experience with slime?

No experience with slime product though I've used fix a flat a few times to get somewhere home or to shop. Once donated a can to another rider in greater need than me.
I carry tire repair stuff too but for tubed tires I would prefer to deal with them at home or shop.

I carry the worms and the insertion tools ans glue and a funky pump. Actually I rode on the flat for several miles before I got to a spot in the mountains I knew was flat and had cell phone coverage. The tire didn't break the bead it just felt funny.
Friend of mine rode home after bashing a rock with the front tire and bending the rim so badly he had to remove the caliper to allow the wheel to rotate.
It's amazing how far you can travel on supposed flat and still not have a life threatening problem.
Some folks are more comfortable not moving something less than perfect.
I once rode home with a shot transmission, 150 miles. It was noisy in 5th so I just left it in 4th. No big deal.

I carry glueless sticky plugs. I put a set of Anakee 2s on last summer. At 700 miles I found the rear at 20 psi and with a screw in the tread. Pulled screw, reamed hole and put 1 sticky plug in. It made it 500 miles and developed a slow leak. Next a sticky plug with glue.....slow leak at 500 miles later. Next 2 sticky plugs with glue....same result.

Finally, I used 2 sticky plugs dry. Presto, it is fixed now and the tire has 8,000 miles on it. No leakage at all. BTW, I put both plugs on the insertion tool at the same time forming a plus sign. It was a MF to get them in.

Yeah, spare me about temporary repairs...you price an Anakee lately. And I check pressure before every ride and every morning on trips.

I carry a CO2 dispenser and get my CO2 cartridges in the paintball section at Wal-Mart. The Brown HD plugs work like a charm. I've plugged 8 tires and have ridden 7 of them till it was time to toss 'em. Having a flat sucks.......

I carry plugs and a very small compressor in my tank bag. As far as Slime goes... I hesitate to put anything in my tire I dont have control of where it goes and how it settles once inside. It will throw the balance of the tire off, add rotational mass and basically ruin the tire... IMHO. That being said, in a pinch its better than not getting to where you're going or paying for a tow.

Slime distributes itself inside the tire and actually balances it dynamically. One problem with it is it's messy when it comes time to change the tire. Ride-On balances, seals and is not messy.

I've actually used the tubeless tire repair strips on a tubed tire and made it home.

Picked up a large screw in the KLR rear at witching hour. Had a spare tube but thought I'd try the strip fix for the heck of it before replacing the tube and the SOB worked No leak at the spokes, valve stem or the bead.

Stopped twice in 80 miles and added about 4 lbs each time with Slime pump but it got me home.

Tube turned out to be ripped to shreds so no sealant would have helped.

True story. I know it shouldnt work but it did.

If you can carry a spare tube, nothing lost if it doesn't work but worth a shot.
