Default Posers

In my meanderings around this and other forums I regularly run across the use of the word "poser" to describe someone. The only thing this conjures up, in my mind, is an old cell phone commercial with gold laden oriental dudes posing as rap stars. What do you visualize when you read/use the word? Are posers anyone who wears a uniform? (pirate, road racer, Attgatt adventurer) Is it some one who rides to be seen? or is it someone who has a twenty thousand dollar bike they are afraid to ride? Is it someone who brags daily about how many thousands of miles they rode this year? or is it someone with a twenty five year old bike with 2000 miles on it? Is it what I call "the checkbook biker" like in the wild hogs movie? I can name someone who fits in each of the above descriptions and for the life of me when someone says "poser" I don't know which one they are referring to. They are all posers to some extent.

If you look the word up in the dictionary, they use my picture for the illustration.

Norm, for God's sake man, put on your glasses; he wrote "poser" not, "hoser"!
You're welcome,

In my experience people tend to refer someone as a poser when they don't have the same ideas about motorcycling as they do.

Hey gramps, have you recovered yet from your poseventure out west?

It's not "hoser", I confuse P and L.

However you define it, I don't think the V-Strom is the best choice of bike...not nearly enough chrome!

Now if Suzuki sold branded underwear...

In Motorcycle terms I think it isn't about how much you ride or what you ride, but rather I think a "Poser" is someone that is more worried about their image than the actual riding.

+1, also tend to believe the term can be applied to one's approach toward life in general; talkin the talk/ walkin the walk, yada yada.
