I clicked on this thread, but left after I realized that it wasn't about you getting into a pissing match with a couple of R1200GS riders at the Starbucks down the road.

I you ride a bike you're a friend.
I wave at the moped riders too. You never know, the person on that moped might be riding his or her first two-wheeled motorized vehicle (you know that moped IS a motorcycle don't you?). Getting waved at might make his day and thus a long term motorcyclist is born...

Thnk goodness I'm not alone in my liberal use of "The Wave".

They are usually too surprised to respond in kind.

What would be funny is if the moped or Vespa rider doesn't return the "wave." That or they are shocked by the courtesy or acknowledgement.

I can't speak for the moped rider, but that seems to be what's happening the vast majority of the times I wave at them. The ones who wave back usually do so with some latency and apparent surprise.

I met a lday on a scooter the other day and showed her my heated gear, she was amazed.

Out for a ride today, and while taking a side-trip into some First-Nations land, I waved at a teenage boy on his bicycle. He looked at me in shock, before breaking out in a great smile. He appreciated the attention. I think we were both winners in that transaction, as I'm still smiling.

(And sorry to those who have read the same story on my other post today - maybe I've only so much material)

I wave at anyone. Around here, Harley riders seem to wave back as much as anyone else. Today, it was cold out (maybe not by Tom's standards). Five of the eight bikes I saw were cruisers. I know for a fact there are some keen, capable and knowledgeable riders amongst them. And some not so much.

I was talking with a couple of Honda Valkyrie riders (not posers) last week. One mentioned how dirty my bike was. I told him I sprayed it on, to look the part. Had a good laugh, we all had enough experience to get it.

It may just be that cruiser riders are the biggest "block" of riders out there so we see more cruiser posers than sport bike or even adventure bike posers. Every group has it's posers and it's serious practitioners.

I've chatted with all sorts of riders on trips from 1 percenters (he sells bikes and spent five minutes telling his buds how good a bike the Wee is) to media executives. We all have a love of the open road and two wheels in common - we just approach it differently.

When I run into posers I just shrug and go my own way. They're seldom too dangerous.

They're only dangerous when they share the road with you.
