Anyone have any idea if this is going to effect the MC market at all. The dealership in my area (when I'm in my area) is bike only but I was wondering if some of you have a Suzuki everything dealer... from CNN Money: "American Suzuki said it plans to emerge from bankruptcy as a company focused on selling ATVs, motorcycles and outboard marine engines. The company said it remains "firmly committed" to those product lines."

It went belly up soon after building a huge Auto-mall. Suzuki needs to focus on what they are good at...and it isn't cars.

Naming their flagship car for the US market Kaizashi couldn't have helped. On four wheels, I prefer American.

Dunno about world sales, but the few Suzuki cages I saw on the road suggests that they weren't selling enough to recoup their costs. If this was sapping resources from the bike sales/development, then this could turn out to be a Good Thing. Of course, all depends how deep in the red they got, and how successful they are at divesting.

There are now about three threads on this. Perhaps a moderator could merge them?

I've got to tell you guys, I have a Suzuki SX-4 hatchback. All wheel drive and 30MPG. Its been very reliable. I actually have considered getting another one for my next vehicle. Maybe not now. Too bad in my eyes. I only paid $16k for it brand new in 2008.

I've had a Samari, two Sidekicks,a Swift, and a all wheel drive Aerio, no problems with any of them. Now the interior wasn't Toyota or Honda-grade as far as quality of plastics and seats, but they were dead reliable. Went 4 wheelin several times in the ol' Samari and showed up quite a few Jeeps and Landcruisers in deep mud! But,the car dealers around here kept dying out and we only had 1 left, not enough for me to risk it on another purchase. Just like Ducati, BMW, and Triumph motorcycles, no dealer network-no buy from me! Cheers--BB

" It said it was exiting the car business in the United States because of slow sales, unfavorable foreign exchange rates and the high costs of complying with state and federal regulatory requirements. American Suzuki sold just 2,023 cars in the United States last month.
"The bankruptcy does not involve the company’s parent, Suzuki Motor of Japan. "In documents filed with the Federal Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California in Santa Ana, the company estimated that its debts and liabilities ranged from at least $100 million to $500 million. It also said it had 1,000 to 5,000 creditors. "American Suzuki said it had enough cash to operate during the reorganization and intended to honor all car warranties and buyback agreements. It will work with its car dealerships to help them make the transition to parts-and-service operations." http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/06/bu...ness.html?_r=0 The Chinese have been manipulating their currency against the Japanese yen by buying yen demoninated bonds. This tends to raise the value of the yen vs. the Chinese renminbi (the yuan is the unit of currency). Partly due to this, many Japanese manufacturers that depend on export are in trouble. Sharp Electronics is close to failure. To help lower the value of their currency, the Japanese are selling yen and buying U.S. bonds, which pushes up the value of the U.S. dollar. Thus the Chinese are manipulating their currency down and the USD up in a second-hand fashion. (If a country's currency is cheap compared to other currencies, their exports are cheap and they sell more overseas. Imported products cost more, thus helping domestic manufacturers.) While we here in the U.S. hear a lot about the Chinese buying U.S. debt, actually the Chinese own slightly less than they did four years ago. The Japanese own almost as much U.S. debt as the Chinese.
