I was prepared to invest in heated gear in September until the local retailer went out of business. I'm hesitant to buy online clothing because of the possible hassle and bother shipping it back if it doesn't fit or work. I'm KICKING myself for not getting my act together and getting the heated gear issue resolved last Spring. So yesterday (and Thursday, Friday & Sunday), I just put on more layers than a pan of lasagna (two layers Wickers thermals, an additional Wickers thermal turtleneck, wool socks, a fleece pullover, windbreaker AND my FirstGear three-season jacket) and had splendid riding fun. Of course, with all that crap on, I chose to eat my lunch outdoors instead of sweating it up in some restaurant. The only "weak links" were my FirstGear "cold weather" gloves which just don't keep my fingers warm enough so I changed into some non-armored skiing gloves which worked just dandy.

I started adding StarTron a few tankfuls ago in preparation for putting my bike away for winter. No black-ice riding for me, thank you. When it's frightening to ride, it isn't fun for me anymore. Supposedly we're getting a nor'easter this Wednesday but I'm still hoping I can ride up through Thanksgiving. Then I'll put her away in the barn and on warmer days get to adding some new farkels (wiring block, lowering pegs, lighting upgrades) and plan on getting heated gear NEXT Spring as soon as it goes on sale (save some $$$).

Yeah we're kind of lucky in regards to the winters, they're mostly mild. A lot of grey, no doubt, but mostly drizzly rain. I sure as heck won't ride if there's any chance of snow or ice. Metro bus service or the deville are my alternatives.

In the land of snowmobiles and ice fishing I can deal with the cold, but with frozen tires without studded tires, reason prevails.
Our winter around here is messy. Packed snow, snow covered ice, slush and salt don’t make for fun riding.
When the weather required my officers to carry extra pads of accident reports on a day when normally one would last months; I regret it, but I park the bike.
I miss the bike, but when my van is rammed, the pain is only mental.

I gotta say that my Aerostich electric vest has truly extended my riding opportunities.....hopefully I'll be able to augment my electrical clothing with perhaps some chapps, gloves, etc....but, until my money tree sprouts fruit, the vest is IT!

Keep the core warm, and the peripherals can survive......The vest makes a huge difference.

Well it looks like there might still be a chance it will clear up over the next week. I also have Monday off so I might be getting some more riding in after all.

Veterans Day Mostly sunny, with a high near 55.

Sunday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 41.

Monday Partly sunny, with a high near 59.
