Don't wolves cull the old, young and sick from the herd. The ones easy to chase out and pull down and not get hurt themselves?
It's old ladies in walkers and macho guys in camo that shoot the younger stronger breeding stock that would normally strengthen the herd gene pool.
I don't think the hunters need worry about the wolves getting the Elk with the big rack.
One guy at work used to rent a blind and shoot the poor things from up in a tree. The rancher would leave enough corn in the fields above the river to attract the herd past his blinds. All very sporting, of course.

If you dont have to track or trap your game, its cheating to me. Thats half the fun and why its called hunting.

I always thought it would be a sporting adventure to go out hunting with a harpoon, a goodly length of rope and a ton of nerve.
By golly if you could bring down a moose or elk with a harpoon then you would certainly deserve the title of "Hunter".

So far I haven't worked up enough nerve to try it....

Ive always wanted to try spear hunting but thats along the same lines. Prey has to be close and loads of skill for an effective kill

I think you will have to be fleet of foot just in case you just make the beast angry with your first shot....

I ride here all year when it's above 40°F and fairly dry, but otherwise this is my winter therapy:

So far I have trips planned to Whistler, Whitefish, Utah, and several day or two day trips to a local area, Stevens Pass. All this is after my December week-long ride in the Dominican Republic with Robert and Alida Cooper.

well technically i got back a week ago, but i've been quite busy and haven't had much time to stop by...

i got myself a nice decent sized 4 by muley...saw a small herd of 16 cow elk, and saw no sign of wolf or heard them...but the deer were all over the place!!

i have my opinions about hunting, and what is and isn't, and i've also got opinions about wolves and other stuff, but that can get political so i will just leave it to myself...all i know is i enjoy the kind of hunting i do

i fly into the middle of no where and hike my butt off and sleep on the ground in the snow and rain and what ever mother nature decides, and then i have to field dress my animal after i take it, and then have to pack it out on my back...no quads, or horses, or trucks or anything to help me except maybe a friend or two...

for now my big game hunting will slow down after this year as i need to save up vacation time for other things (alaska trip on wee in 2014 is one of them ) but i still enjoy duck hunting all winter long...

here are a few pics of my deer for those that are curious...
