Default Lost My Best Friend [ Updated]

I had to put down my best friend. We had 16 years together. I feel lost without him.

I want to thank every one who responded to my post. Your responses were very comforting. My next dog will be a rescued dog. I'm blown away that a bunch of strangers would take the time to help me out. You comments gave me great comfort and let me know what I was feeling is normal. You guys are awesome.

W4M: I understand your loss and know the pain you feel. My wife has a momento on her dresser that reads, "Dogs leave paw prints on our hearts." We live in the country and managed a few acres that allows us to have five dogs; 4 house dogs and one that lives with the livestock. It's never easy to lose one of our babies, and time makes it more bareable, but we never forget. Some of those paw prints are as fresh as if they were made yesturday, for me. Best wishes to you in you loss.

When the time comes, and it's right for you, there are many more "friends" that are looking to meet you.

p.s. That's a great picture!

...been there...words fall so short. Time will heal and, eventually, you'll find room in your heart for another friend, not take the place of the one you lost, but rather, to fill the space until he or she carves out their own niche in your heart and life.

I am sorry for your loss and you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Dogs are wonderful companions who freely give their love and loyalty.

I ran across this quote a couple of years ago and I found it to be very profound.

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

You are his life, his love, his leader.

He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.

You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

I've had dogs all my life and I've had to put my share down. It is heartbreaking. After a time, go to the shelter a find a new buddy to share your life with. Saving doggies from the shelter is a great thing to do. Sorry for your loss. It's tough to deal with.

Really sorry to hear you lost your canine buddy. We had to put our Annie down after 14 years and it was heartbreaking, so we feel your loss, too. You have great memories, though. The thing about dogs is that they love you unconditionally, no matter what. "Man's best friend."

Even though they're gone, good memories remain. +1 for the "when the time is right, more friends await."

Sorry for your loss...I can't imagine losing my dog. I hope your heart heals soon and you find yourself able to find another.
