Default Looking for campground recommendations around Asheville, NC

I've decided to get out of the heat for the weekend and go up to Asheville and the BRP. I've never visited that area before so I'm looking for a national forest campground that is close to the BRP and close to Asheville. I was hoping someone here could offer some recommendations. I don't need power or water on site as I'll be tenting.

Also any must see things while I'm up there? I'm only going for a long weekend so I'd like to cram as much good stuff in as possible.

Thanks,
Dom

I motorcycle camp at the KOA campground in Boone, NC. Great motorcycle roads there. Blue Ridge Parkway close. Southwest Virginia and Northwest Tennessee motorcycle roads not far away. Great paved and dual-sport roads. Just keep your food out of your tents. We frequently get visits from Smoky Bear.

Default camping NC

I like to camp at Cruso motorcycle campground near BRP also close to Waynesville. this is 7 miles from the parkway. Also, on the parkway- is Mt Pisgah campground, restaurant across the street.
I plan to be there next week.

North Mills River Campground is small and laid back, I think one of the best around for tent camping. Davidson River Campground is another option, but it's big and busy. Both are in Nat'l Forest, near the BRP with plenty of awesome riding both paved and unpaved roads.

Funny, I'm headed from Hendersonville to Edisto Island tomorrow for a week. Have fun and enjoy the mountain riding.

Default Balsam Mountain Campground

I been out there several times and I would recommend the Balsam Mountain Campground. The elevation is high, so it is about 10 degrees cooler. The campground is small, but it is fine for a motorcycle tent camping. It is only $14 a night and right off the the best part of the BRP. I also recommend Clyde's Restaurant in Waynesville.
