I always have rain gear when I travel because you never know when it's gonna rain. You'll get used to it.
Once I'm suited up for it, rain riding can actually be enjoyable...or a freaking disaster! Gully washers are always fun to talk about afterward. Snow can be done but probably on the bottom of the to do list! |

Not a lot of rain in Socal but I enjoy riding in it when it comes around. My only weak spot are the gloves I wear, they're very breathable. Nothing worse than wet gloves.

I gotta agree, I don't really see the point. Not so much the car tires but riding on a snowy road on purpose. Seems like bravado with no real reason.
Oh sorry to thread jack. To the OP, rain is no big deal. Get good rain gear and ride smooth. Smooth braking and smooth trottle control. Avoid leaning much when crossing painted surfaces or metal plates. After a while you won't even think twice about riding in the rain.

Living 25 miles north of Seattle, I am no stranger to riding in the rain. I make somewhat of an effort to avoid predicted heavy rain when riding to work, but if I am caught in something that comes up, no big deal. For my work commuting, I wear a high-viz Olympia Phantom one-piece suit, and it does a pretty good job of keeping me dry. Once a year, I wash all my textile gear in Tech Wash and then use the Nikwax wash-in waterproofing.
But up in the wet part of the Pacific NW, we have about a six month riding season (April-September) unless you want to routinely ride in torrential rain or cold. For me, motorcycling is recreation, so I mostly choose to drive in the extreme weather. Although if it is cold (above freezing) and dry, I will still ride.

I never ride in the rain by choice — I gave that up years ago. Why bother being wet and uncomfortable (and with a fogged up visor).
I have a pair of wet weather pants in the saddle bag in case I get caught out. I've never worn them. It's not an issue for me. I don't ride much anymore. The conditions have to be right and the trip has to be long enough to be worth suiting up. It takes me a good 15 minutes to get all my gear together and on and, by then, I'm so stressed I take it all off again and cancel the ride. SO much easier to drive. That's one of the reasons I recently sold my XJR1300. Even though it was a much more enjoyable ride than the Strom, it was used even less. and it was worth much more to sell.

If I ever get that bad someone shoot me and take my Vee.
I bought this to ride and ride it I shall, my gear is light but I pass a dealer everyday to and from work so I can always upgrade. Got off work and rode about 50 miles out of my way to multnomah falls. I am happier than I've been in years! Sent from my iPhone using MO Free

I don't mind the rain as long as it is happening on my way home from work, seeing as none of my water proof gear is actually waterproof. Getting home and jumping in a warm shower makes me forget about the ride home. Sitting at my desk all day at work with a soaking wet crotch, not so nice.
Actually, I use "Rain Off" over-gloves over the top of my winter gloves when it is raining. It is the only way I can keep my hands dry regardless of how "waterproof" my gloves claim to be. The are made more necessary by the fact that any time my gloves get wet the black dye leeches into my skin and stays there for several days. |
