I know I have edited my posts on the forum before. This morning I wanted to fix a spelling error in a post and... no edit button.

Am I just looking in the wrong place or is the edit button gone?

Hmmmm..... Maybe I just answered my own question. In the above post I can clearly see the edit button. On the post I wanted to correct; no edit button.

Perhaps there is a limit on how long you have to edit an old post?

I suspect you can only edit your post until someone else posts after you in the thread.

I'm not sure if this is the case or not, but I have had the same issue trying to edit posts.

Now look and see if you can edit your post above mine still or if you have lost the edit button from it.

There is a time limit.

This was the major reason why I moved most of my stuff off of this forum and on to my own website. By doing so, I can go back to it, as many times as I want to, and edit each article that I have written.

So why does there need to be a time limit?

Other forums I'm on don't have a time limit on editing posts.

Sigh...... Big Sigh......

You need to ask the Administrator that question.

Correct. Must be a time limit thing, because I can still edit the posts above.

I wonder why a time limit? If a post has a error it seems only logical that there should be a way to edit it.

But, like in the TRON movies, I'm just a dumb yuk 'User' and don't know what is good for the 'System'.

.
I vote for no time limits on editing . . . BUT BUT BUT there should be more "transparency".

By that I mean that the "to-be-corrected" material remains in the text, and the "correction" is footnoted to the bottom.
(Or if the within-text material is grossly/dangerously misleading and/or offensive, then the poster ~ or moderator ~ can excise it but leave in its place a bracketed message that a sentence or two has been zapped.)

Otherwise, edited versions can be a bit awkward to take in context with following posts based on the original.
Even little things like spelling errors (where they are not an obvious typo) should get their *asterisk and *footnote.
A small humiliation for the writer, but a learning experience for all.
