Keep this in mind, if you plan to only stay on well maintained roads, then I feel, you are not getting all that you can out of a DL-650. It is the "wrong tool" for that kind of riding.
I hope to put together a video of yesterdays 518 mile ride. Here is a link to the map: Mt Desert Island to Mt Desert, ME - Google Maps I shot video of riding on very rough secondary roads, recently graded gravel/dirt roads, an ATV road, and doing 75mph up the interstate. Last Memorial Day Weekend, I rode 840 miles in 16hrs and 18mins. That time would have been nearly one hour less then that, but I got stuck in "bumper -to- bumper" taffic, on Rt 401, in Toronto, Canada. I STILL had 8hrs of riding to go before the 24 hrs ran out. Gee, do you think I could have ridden another 160 miles in that time frame? B.L.

That's great stuff! I have no intentions on being a pure 'roadie'. IronButt was just something I wanted to try. So just do it. Given your numbers, you can surely finish the SS1000. Your average speed was 51.5 MPH (=840 miles / ~16.3 hours) Mine was 1090 miles / 19.5 hours = 55.8 MPH It is safe to say that you would need about 3.5 more hours to complete the ride (160 miles left over 51.5 MPH). Bear in mind that it is not possible to do exactly 1000 miles, and that Suzuki's odometer counts more miles then in reality. To get to BB 1500 Gold, I think a realistic minimum of 70 MPH is needed (which takes into account stops/fuel), since 1500 / 24 = 62.5 MPH, which is the bare theoretical minimum (nobody can ride 24 hours straight without refueling and resting) Sorry about the math, but that is how my mind worked yesterday all day long. I kept calculated when I will arrive home based on my average MPH ..

Congrats on your ride,,,,,, my butt could never handle it. I do have have to comment on your route, I would rather have a sharp stick in my eye then spent a day on your choice of roads. I've lived in NY and NJ and have family in PA, I could not imagine doing what you did.

I hear you - It was actually fun until Buffalo. The roads in MD/WV were awesome - like riding in Poland with all the green hills. I-90E was one PITA literally. Straight for 270 miles, boring, nothing to see except plenty of deer that were seeking to kill me!

For whatever reason, I am just not drawn to riding a 1,000 miles, in a day, to say that I rode a 1,000 miles in a day. I know that I can, so I don't. However, if I HAD to ride a 1,000 miles in a day, (let's say a family emergency, or something like that), then I would do it. And, I wouldn't care about documentation. When I pull into to a gas station, I don't get off of my bike. I stay straddled on it, and I do my best "Pit Stop" fuel up that I can do. I do not eat, or drink much during the day. I travel light. At the end of the the day, you best have a "horse" waiting for me; cooked medium rare! Yesterday's challenge was to ride from Whitehorse Gear, up into Québec, then back home without looking at a map. I don't use a GPS anymore. The ride from Mt. Megantic to my home I can do blindfolded. My only question was the dirt roads just past Dixville Notch, (The Diamond Pond Rd, Harvey Swell Road, Bear Rock Rd, and North Hill Rd). I have not ridden them since 2010. It turns out, I have them memorized too! I am working on the video from yesterday's ride right now. (I had a kick butt flying lesson this afternoon too! Near perfect landings every time. And, two power off landings as well.) B.L.

Congrats on the SS1000. I completed the SS1600k from Abbotsford, BC to Calgary Alberta and back last June. Hit rain, hail, road construction, fog but no wildlife and very little traffic. I actually finished with a little over 1100 miles in 23 1/2 hours. Could have easily made the 1500 if it wasn't for road construction. I enjoyed the challenge. My wife and I went down the coast a couple of years ago and across to Vegas. They told us it was 150F when we arrived at the Excalibur. That was enough for my wife - we headed home after that but still put on nearly 4000 miles. Hoping to do the Three Flag challenge next month, but by myself. That should pretty much satisfy me for the marathons.

Congratulations, glad to see you guys made it back in one piece.
Hoping you had some fun with it as well, in addition to grinding out some of those miles, which might have seemed a chore. I've run that stretch of I-90 before, and I could see myself drifting towards a bridge abutment after about the third hour, out of sheer boredom What's next??

Congratulations. I am a little like black lab on this topic. Last year I returned from Florida, through AL, LA, MS, AL again,TN and then KY (home). Never even really thought about it until I looked at the odometer in the driveway... Just over 1100 miles. I could have eaten my seat cover when I got home and was thirsty for two days.
Maybe some day I will document one...Im not sure why though. Do you need to make it a loop?
