Back in November of 2008, PO-SLOKE started a game called "Strom Cachers USA/Canada. Please see this link for the original thread http://www.stromtrooper.com/north-america/33162-strom-cachers-usa-canada.html and details of how that game was played. It was a fun and successful activity that was enjoyed by many Stromtrooper members. Unfortunately back in about July of 2010 the cache went MIA. This was very disappointing to those of us who participated in a cache hand-off, and to many who simply enjoyed following the thread and watching the journey.

Good news....
The Cache Game is Back! With PO-SLOKE'S permission, I have put together a new cache box and I'm ready to put it in play right away. We have learned a few things from the previous game and the rules have been changed slightly. For lack of a better term, I will be the Cache Captain and will try my best to moderate this thread with the help of a couple of other volunteers.

FAQ

What is The Cache Box?

This is the Cache Box. For simplicity we will often refer to the cache box as "the cache" but the cache is actually not the box but rather a token placed inside the box by the last rider to acquire it. The box must always contain 3 items: (1) The cache (2) Pen (3) Note Pad (journal)

What is the cache? To start the game, I will place a small item inside the box which is called the "cache". This item is the prize or reward for the next rider who acquires the box. The cache can be anything you want to pass on to the next rider. The only rule is that it must fit neatly inside the box. Typical cache items include: pins, stickers, small state souvenirs, coins, stamps, cards, etc. Try to make the cache something personal and interesting. Be creative! It may be something about you, your city/state/province, occupation, etc.

How do I get the cache? You follow this thread and the journey of the cache. When the cache is in your proximity, you make arrangements with the current holder of the cache to meet for a cache exchange. If you want to follow the progress, you should subscribe to this thread and have an automatic email sent to you whenever there is a new post.

What do we do when we meet to exchange the cache? You should do three things (1) Take a Photo of the riders involved in the cache exchange. The typical photo is one with both riders, both bikes, and the cache box being passed by hand to the other rider. (2) Make an entry on the note pad with the following: Date of exchange - GPS coordinates and/or physical address of the exchange location - Stromtrooper screen names of both riders - Any other notes or message you wish to include into the cache journal.

I have the cache, now what do I do? (1) Remove the cache token left in the box by the previous rider to keep as your prize (2) Replace the cache with one of your own to pass to the next rider (3) Come back to this thread and post a report of your the exchange including the photo. (4) Arrange an exchange with another rider to keep the cache moving.

How much time do I have to pass the cache?
In the previous game the rule was 72 hours (3 days). We are going to extend that to 1 week. Even with that extension, we understand that depending on location and season it may take longer. All we ask is that you try to move it within a week and do your best to keep the cache moving as quickly as possible. If you are unable to arrange an exchange with another rider within that time, please let us know and we'll do what we can to help. We may decide to have you keep trying or ask you to mail the cache box to another rider. We just don't want to have the cache stalled somewhere for several weeks.

What if we can't meet at the same time? In some cases it will be allowed to "geocache" the box. Let's say that you can only ride on a Tuesday but your cache exchange partner can't ride until Saturday. You can arrange with your partner to hide the box in a safe location where only your partner will find it. You must give clear directions to the location. When you place the box, take a photo and post it here telling us what you are doing. When the partner gets the box, he/she will post a photo of the cache retrieval. The downside to this is If the other partner is unable to retrieve the box within a week, you will need to go back and retrieve it or arrange for another rider to get it. Use this provision as a last resort.

Please don't get too hung up on the "rules". Try your best to keep the cache moving, but do whatever makes sense in your particular situation. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance from us or your fellow Stromtroopers. The objective is to have an excuse to ride, meet other riders, and have a new experience.

We are very excited to get this game going again! It can be a great way for you to ride to places you otherwise wouldn't and share the experience with other V-Strom riders who share your passion for riding. I hope many of you will choose to participate and I promise you that your efforts will be rewarded in unexpected ways.

GAME ON!

Sheesh..Photobucket has gone wacko, so I signed up with Imgur.
Thanks to Andreas and Satch for meeting in Jordon, Utah and the hand-off.

Made the chilly ride to St George, Utah and handed off the Med-Plt.

and he's on his way to Las Vegas, Nevada

Thanks 2mstone for going the distance and for the excellent ride blog!

I want to toot 2mstone's horn just a bit. I'm pretty sure he holds the record for the most miles ridden to deliver the cache. He rode over 2,000 miles to bring the original cache from Georgia to Utah (In December no less!). Now add another 300+ miles on this latest delivery. I'm estimating he has ridden with the cache over 2500 miles....and all during winter months! That's around 5,000 miles both ways. :punk:

Now it's up to some of you other rugged Stromtroopers in NV, AZ, CA, WA, OR. Who's up to the challenge?

Awww shucks, thanks for the 'toot'.
On the way home yesterday I was actually wondering what it would feel like to carry the Cache on a warm day..............

Something that might be helpful is an
"I wan-it"
thread.
Riders (as some have done on this thread) would state a desire to carry the Cache.
That way maybe no one would be missed that wants to be a player.

Or...just encourage riders to do the same on this thread....

Well the handoff went down with a longtime lurker Swany300 (Jerry)

Untitled by kukuinvegas, on Flickr
It was a very stressful meeting as Medplt works at the rival hospital across the street from Jerry and I:yikes:
We had to cross the street dodging Street Bums, Ambulances and Vegas Drivers:jawdrop:
Let alone the crappy 68 degree weather:biggrinjester:
We will work it around for a bit here til I can locate an out of towner willing to take the cache.
When I find someone that can work with my schedule I will get it from the guys and ride out.
I think we may recruit DL650Vman (Ron) next:beatnik:

Andreas may beat me to a pulp for this but.... if you waited until the DV run we could take it south for someone in the states, or I could keep it into Mexico and find someone there, or find someone on the way back....
Just a thought..

#83 ·
If thats the only possibility to get it out of town then we must make it move.
I was hoping to have someone step up before the New Years ride.
Mike

That would be best, but if needs be I'm sure I can find a Strommer somewhere on the path between Baja and back here. However, I would need some time to get the feelers out and get a reply back. Let me know what you want to do.
