G'day Y'all

A good friend of mine is coming to the US for the whole month of May and will be in need of a bike.

He is a very experienced rider, currently has a Vee and a few KTMs and is good both on and off road.

He would like to either rent a Vstrom(or a touring bike for 2 up), or buy one and sell it afterwards.

The other option is to borrow one from a fellow rider.

Or, he has a house and bikes in Brisbane Australia and is willing to do a house swap including a bike for the month :)

What say you, anyone interested in helping out?

If you want to see what he is about first, then check out his bloggy thing

Hi again

The plan has been slightly modified now, Guy has decided to buy a bike in the states and leave it there for further trips in the future.

He is looking for an older model Vstrom 1000, preferably in California and if possible, somewhere to store it.

If anyone can help, we would appreciate it :)

Cheers

You want us to loan a bike to THIS guy? :green_lol::biggrinjester:

Seriously though, he does a nice job blogging his adventures and looks like a great guy. I wish him the best of luck on his US trip. I'm in Utah and if his ride takes him through this part of the country, I'd be happy to help if needed.

The main sources for locating bikes in Ca. are CraigsList and Cycle trader.

There are, of course, many more 650s available - but still a fair number of 1000s. Example: A 2006 with 39k miles listed in L.A. at $4500 (USD not AUD).

We have some unique rules about registration and proof of insurance on used vehicles, so if he can use any help in getting the details ironed out in advance (or in contacting sellers, etc.), just send me a PM.

Cheers!

Hi chaps, thanks for the replies

Satch - Um yes, that would be him lol :)

Windypoint and emc2 I will pass that info along, I Have tried to explain basically how the US does things, but it is tricky, takes a while to grasp it :)

Damm, I am getting jealous, might have to come back as well :)

Cheers

Hi all
I'm Richards mate that is looking for a bike for my upcoming trip,to your country.
( and yes I did drown my 640 but I try to not make a habit of it)
If anyone knows of a 1000 Strom that would be suitable I would love to hear from you.

Would prefer something equipped with luggage and perhaps the odd practical modification.

The Aussie dollar is being smashed at the moment, so my budget is getting less by the day, but I am looking to spend 3-4k

Alternatively if anyone is contemplating a trip to Aus I have a fully set up 08 DL1000 that I would be interested in doing a bike swap with.
Can't wait to come and do some exploring in your country.

My wife and I fly into LA in early May, so something close to their would be ideal, plus a CA bike would meet the rules etc. is it really true that you can't ride a bike registered in another state in CA? That's bizarre.

Anyone any and all info appreciated.

If that is true, I break the law all the time. I ride my Washington State bike all over North America. The bikes sold in California may have lower exhaust emissions in order to be sold there, but there is no prohibition that I have heard of for other State licensed vehicles to ride there.

Just bumping this up. Getting to the point where I am seriously looking now. Really would prefer a bike in LA region as I have a friend that will look and pick up for me.

Also would really like a bike set up with luggage and GPS etc.

Please let me know if you are thinking of selling.

Hope this worked out for you. I would have gladly lent you mine but I'm in South Carolina, though, if you need to store I'd be happy to help out.
