Hey Pete, I took a ride out to Bailey Island last week and down to Plum Island yesterday. Gotta love that heated gear!! Also, most of the friggen tourists are gone.:grin2: Hi to Gini !
I avoid the shadowy mountain passes this time of year, but I did manage a quick 120 mile run today with mid-30 F. temps. Bright blue sunny skies make all the difference! Just turned over 7,000 miles today. I really need new tires NOW.
I've had my '12 Wee for only a couple months or so but I've seen the freeze warning snowflake on the dash several times now - probably a half dozen or so. Comes on at 38F I think. A nice feature. Do new-gen Vees have that ?
As for real snowflakes, I've seen only a few late one evening. So tiny they were barely detectable. OK with me if it stays that way for awhile.
I'm in Virginia, and well south of most of you posting on this thread, but in my view every day I can get outside and work (mowed my lawn today - Thanksgiving day !!) is one day fewer of the cold and wet and nastiness of winter - and the staying indoors that sometimes has to go with it.
Really enjoying the new-to-me Wee2 btw. Looking forward to next spring but with such nice weather right now I'm not (yet) longing so much for spring.
It's supposed to be in the 50's here along the southern coast of Maine tomorrow. Think I'll head up to Fort Popham up in Phippsburg while everyone's out shopping for baaagins.:grin2:
Was nice today after a few weeks off due to travel.10 degrees C - very pleasant for a ride to the coffee shop ( 30 miles or so ) - there were a few riders out.
About the same tomorrow with scattered showers then back to near freezing on the weekend. Nice to be back on the Wee after living with the CBF for a couple of months.
Hope to do the "ice ride" next week, up the Bruce Peninsula and back, but will depend on the amount of sand and salt on the roads; we've had some rain after the first snows, so I'm hopeful they're washed off. I work on an island out in the middle of Georgian Bay, so never know road conditions until I get home. Just one more ride, that's all I ask....
Hi Pete! You da MAN!
Dec 6 and still riding here, too! No salt down on the roadways yet. Forty degrees or better. Riding is fair game! Once the salt goes down for the first time, I'm off the roadways.
Ride safe, all.

I came down with a cold after Thanksgiving, courtesy of Gini's grandkids who were sick. Kind of my own fault for asking a 4 and 2 year old to explain the game they were playing upstairs. Should have ducked after they told me they were playing Hide and Spit...
Anyway.....missed out on last weekends great riding weather. Looking forward to a healthy and warm weekend of riding. Middle of Dec and 50 deg in Maine....
Well, they'll be getting coal in their stockings, little buggers. Sorry you missed the weekend but it's supposed to be nice this weekend, 50's. My bike gets put away Sunday. I'm having carpel tunnel surgery next Tues.. I managed to ride 15,000 miles this year so no complaints. >
As I posted in another thread here yesterday, i rode up in NH on sunday. Was 55 deg early on, but then later in the day the temp started to plummet. I had planned on turning back for home once it got dark, but ended up cutting it a little short since i didn't have heated gear with me and was starting to get a little chilly. Somewhere in the southwestern part, near VT, there were some patches of very dense and cold fog forming, which i thought was odd cuz it had been so dry and sunny. Anyway, I'm scootin along some back country road around 55mph when all of sudden the strom starts to wiggle. And not just a little. Thought I was going into a tank slapper. I could tell it was from loss of traction. Black ice from the condensation forming on some of the colder stretches of road. The temp indicator on the bike said 36F, so I thought I was ok. Now i know why it starts to alert at 38F. I've ridden many times at those temps (mid to upper 30's, in dry weather) and have never experienced that before. It was a sucky ride home from there. I was torn between going slow, and yet trying to hurry before conditions worsened.
Happens over here on the coast all the time around this time of year. There's been a lot of fog at night and frost on the roads in the morning. Some of the shadows never see the sun and the frost can be there all day. It's a real pain.
They actually had to sand the roads up this way because of the fog condensation freezing on the roads. It was quite treacherous. The temps drop amazingly quick once that sun starts to set. Even with heated gear I like to be home before sunset this time of year
that is reason I like to run studded tires after thanksgiving
