Anyone interested in doing a group ride if the snow ever melts?

Depends on where you are located in MN. I live near Duluth. If you are anywhere near here, we have a small group (5-6 riders) that routinely get together for local 100+ mile rides. We seek out curvy scenic routes that have ma&pa coffee shops or restaurants for a break. I can shoot you a PM when we start riding in a few weeks.

2 trips planned

I have 2 camping trips planned so far.

1-June riding the MN river road eventually to Big Stone Lake Camp ground with a buddy on his cruiser. He's afraid I am going to take him off road :green_lol:

2-July riding the Lake Superior Circle Tour

I live south west of the twin cities BTW.

VINCENT!!!

I might have to ride to Winnipeg just to see that Vincent. Do you still have it?

Honestly, If any of you get up this way to Duluth, I would be happy to provide some group riding opportunities as well as some lodging. I summer at my lake cabin just north of Duluth, could easily provide room there or in town. I ran into a couple of guys last summer who were riding the Lake Superior circle tour. Almost went with them, had the time off but was previously engaged. Anyway, made the same offer to them. Minimally, we should attempt at coming up with a few rally points this summer. Always fun to visit with other riding enthusiast.

I have a Vstrom at my lake cabin/house north of Duluth on weekends and I'm always willing for a day ride. During the workweek I'm in the Southwest Minneapolis area commuting to work on a Honda NT700V. I seem to pick motorbikes that are function over form.

Tuuli,
We should go for a ride sometime. I am about 35 miles north of Duluth in the summer otherwise live in town. If you are interested, every few weeks some friends and I get together for local rides. BTW no one in the groups last name is Lorenzo or Rossi so safe group of riders. Another idea would be to attend bike night at Sir Benedicts on Superior street. Would be nice to see a few more V-Stroms there. There is always some cool bikes showing up.

The Anchor Bar is part of the local landscape here. I remember in my college days an olive burger with fries and Anchor Ale would be under $5 bucks. Great place and know it well. Of course now we have the famed "Thirsty Pagen" brewhouse where they brew fine ales/IPAs/stouts and without a doubt make the best pan pizza within 100 miles. Ask anyone. Sir Benedicts, 7West, Burrito Union, Brewhouse to name a few. One of my favorite rides and a place not well known but serves the best breakfast around is the Delta Dinner South of Iron River Wisconsin. Built to resemble a chromed out rail car. Featured on "Drives, Dives and Diners" and "Outdoor Wisconsin". Todd prepares excellent blue plate specials that are killer. There is also one of the best pieces of paved road nearby with nothing like it within 100 miles. Better than HWY 1.

Can't tell you, would have to show you. Very light traffic, perfect asphalt through 20 miles of chicane with grass up to the side of the road and a forest canopy. No driveways or intersections. The people that know it would burn me down for broadcasting out to the world where it is and how to get to it. Hopefully the occasion will arise this summer to go.

Hey Guys.
I'm just NW of the Metro close to highways 169, 10 and 94.
I got up to Duluth last summer for the VBR-3 at Spirit Mountain.
My riding Buddy ( my Brother) lives south of Sioux Falls SD. So for weekend camping trips we try to meet somewhere that's about half way for each.
We have a spring camping trip planned for Camden State Park near Marshall MN.

Wanted to go to the VBR last fall but had to work. I have heard good reviews on the event. I personally am a big supporter of Aerostich as are most of my riding buddies. I think it would be a lot of fun to come up with a few rides this summer. I am going to have breakfast later this week with a few riding friends and try to plan some rides and trips to put on the calender. If we nail some down I will publish them here. BTW some of the bikes I ride with are an 11 KLR 650, 08 Street Triple, 87 K75RT, 12 V-Strom 650 Adventure, GSA 1200, CBR600RR, so nice cross section.

Wingnut11, thanks for chiming in. BTW, me and some friends are coming down to the cities to go bike shopping for one of them as well as REI. Probably APR 7,8, or 9th. Want to check out the new KTM 1190, hoping to see the 14 DL1000, but he wants an 800 XC. We will see what happens.

Bleedgrn

I think I'm a pretty clam person, and I also fly fish and tie my own flys.
An ideal trip for me would be to ride my my 2013 V Strom Adventure up the North Shore somewhere and go fly fishing.

Actually I think a trip into NW Wisconsin would be better. Probably warmer, better fishing opportunities. I am also a fly tier, though my bench is a little cluttered right now. Tie everything from bass/musky flies to nymphs, streamers and some dry flies. I used to have a serious obsession with tying and have boxes for western trips, local fishing and saltwater. Hoping to incorporate riding the bike with fishing more this year. BTW the steelhead season is upon us. Should be a good year as long as the temp doesn't warm up too quickly.

Chump, would be happy to coordinate a ride once winter leaves. I will mention it at our breakfast meet coming up. Once we figure a few things out I will put out a couple of weekend ride dates that we can choose from.

Planning to leave here around 0800 Wednesday April 8th (pending weather) and probably arrive at our first dealer around 1100. I would like to find out if Cities Edge or Hitching Post received any 14 DL1000s. Plan to call them tomorrow. Will have a better itinerary mapped out in a few days. Hope some of us can cross paths.

Sounds good

Hey Bleedgrn, I work close to the Hitching Post so if you want to catch lunch or something let me know I can meet you at the HP as well. Was just there last week for valve adjustment and they installed my new spacer from Rick.

So I think our plan this coming Wednesday is to go to Midwest Mountaineering, REI, Cities Edge, Belle Plaine Triumph dealer, and Crosstown Cycle KTM and yet to pick a place for lunch. Someone mentioned Smitty's Bar for good craft beer. Open to suggestions. Even though this is a midweek trip, hope to run into to those who will be able to meet for a bit. I will post what our first stops will be as well as where we plan to have lunch. BTW, nothing came out of our Duluth meeting regarding planning rides this summer. To be reconvened in the near future although I am still hoping to come down to IronHorse in NC for May SE rally. Planning a riding trip to UP Michigan mid summer and a cycle ride out to Idaho in August as well as many other local rides.

Homesick

This thread is making me homesick. I've been to most of the places mentioned here. Grew up in Red Wing, lived just south of Camden State Park which was mentioned earlier. Camped at Big Stone and straight line winds came across the lake and almost blew us away. Best vacation ever was to Superior's north shore. Would've moved to Grand Marais except I've found most of the places I'd like to live have very few decent paying jobs.

Despite what you may have heard it isn't winter anymore. So come home for a visit. You know you want to. You know the north shore is one of the best places on earth during the summer.

For the rest of you MN folks, be careful out there. Cars aren't on the lookout for us yet (maybe ever). I know, I got hit by one today. All in all pretty minor, just a broken mirror, some plastic and a little soreness. Not one bruise or scratch thanks to the gear.

Sorry to hear you were hit Wingnut, sounds like you survived intact. We are still planning to come down tomorrow but between the three of us, not very definitive on where we are going. REI for sure either in Maplewood or Bloomington (picking up a bike rack for a new 14 Rubicon). Hoping to get downtown to Midwest Mountaineering, if so will probably go down to Shakopee and Cities Edge. Trying to get a tour of Surly Brewery since we are all big fans of the ales that come out of there. I will put out a post of our where abouts as well as send a text to those who gave out their number. As you all know, it is hard to keep everyone wanting to do the same things, but none the less, hoping to touch base with some of you. As the season develops I will put out some planned rides that we are doing up here and anyone can come that is interested.

Intact indeed. I thought the first time I got hit by a car would be the last. I'm happy to have been wrong, and hopefully I can still be right in a different way.

As for Surly, a friend of mine wanted to go on the tour. I checked the website daily for a couple months waiting for the next tour to show up so I could sign us up. I finally gave up. That was a couple years ago, so maybe things are different now. I'll be working tomorrow so no screwing around looking at bikes and such for me.

I'll keep an eye out for these planned rides you speak of. I'm always looking for a reason to head up north.

Major Bummer Wingnut

Glad you are ok and still riding!! You will have to let us know how it happened. I personally read many accident reports from fellow inmates it keeps me trying to think of situations where I should look for escape routes.

Bleedgrn, let us know where you end up. I will try to escape work for a few. I know it is much further away but there is Shell's brewery as well in New Ulm they have tours and good brew as well.

Well our trip to the cities ended up being a bit of a turn and burn but went down to Cities Edge in Shakopee and lusted and sat on the new V2. Very nice bike and feels about as heavy as my bike. Went to Midwest Outdoors, awesome shop. REI in Bloomington, Granite City Brewhouse for lunch and ended up at Larson Cycle in Cambridge as a side route to look at the KTM 1190. That bike is a little intimidating. Tall in the saddle and looks explosive. Seeing the V2 sitting near by I noticed how alike they appear minus the Spoked rims and orange paint. Sorry we didn't get to link up with anyone but will hopefully post some upcoming rides. I will also post the dates of Bike Night at Sir Benedict's which is always fun. BTW I am in no way trying to take over this thread, just want to make a contribution and hopefully be able to get together with some other members. Adds to the fun.
