Just wondering if anyone uses a top box to hold their laptop when commuting? I have a 15" laptop with extended battery and want to get a top box that will hold it when commuting (and then I can leave the helmet in there when I get to office).

Anyone do this and what size top box?

No reason why not, but keep it in a padded case. Hard drive should be ok (probably), but you might break bits off with pot holes.

Box should be wide enough for the laptop, and tall enough for the helmet.

I carry a full size 16" widescreen laptop in my topbox, and occassionally a 10" netbook. Sometimes I keep it in a proper laptop case and other times I just wrap it in a fleecy hoodie. I've never had any problems with damage occurring.

As for the size of the topbox...get the size that will fit the laptop

Owning a Vee is the very definition of a love-hate relationship..

Out of curiosity - which top box do you have? None of my riding buddies have one and the local dealer has a small one (30l or there abouts) and I know that is too small.

I have a cheap topbox from JC Whitney and I use it to carry my laptop to and from work everyday. Laptop is a 16" lenovo with extended battery in a lenovo case that I uses as a brief case also. Plus I have rain gear, extra gloves and other random stuff in it.

My 15" MacBookPro travels to and from work snug in a padded laptop sleeve in my Givi E460.

I carry my 17" hp elitebook in my bestem top box. I leave it in the case I have for it that is padded... It's a snug fit but not too tight.
