Interesting ride home last night!
I pulled off the freeway, went to down shift from 6th...and the shift lever was gone! I looked down once I got it stopped at the red light and the lever was dangling down, and no longer connected. Have you ever tried crossing an intersection from a stand still in 6th gear? Finesse is an understatement! Once I got across, I found that the linkage piece between the two ball cups was gone. I manually clicked it down into 3rd gear, and limped the 3 miles home in 3rd gear. Does anyone know what this piece is called? Shift lever linkage, or something? Is the dealership the place to get a new one, or online? I have never had to buy a single part for this bike in 3 years...

Here are the names and part numbers. You can get them from a dealer or online. I got the fiche from Fast shipping. Up to 40% off Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Polaris OEM motorcycle parts and accessories. Deep reseller discounts. and it's one online place among many. You can do an Internet search on the part numbers. #37 is an ordinary M6 nut you can easily find cheaper but #34 has a left hand thread.

Greywolf, thanks so much!! You sure made that easy!
I tried the site you recommended, and the total for the part was just over $9, and their cheapest shipping option was $9...which sucks. I did a quick search and found $1.75 shipping and the parts for $8. So I got them from Powersportsplus.com for half the price total. But either way, your part numbers made that a breeze! Thanks again!!!

or get rid of the whole retarded linkage and go with a touratech folding lever. much better/smoother shifting. or go low market and get a dr650 lever. not linkage.

On a 650, that would reverse the shift pattern to one up and five down.

I had the pivot bolt (#33) for that assembly come out and I was stuck in 1st gear for a couple miles home.
I did have a similar rod break years ago on a another bike. It do happen once in a while. At least you were close to home. |

For those of you who are loctit-ing the linkage on there, where exactly are you doing it? Is it # 29---> 31?
Also, what is the exact size of the circlip used? I had an assorted pack and have lost everyone I tried on there. Am I missing a trick with those as well?

Loctite the threads on #33. #29 is an adjuster. Just properly snug up the nuts on it. The bottom one has a left hand thread.
