Hey, just got an 04 Ninja 250 for my 20 year old son. Good condition, adult ridden but the previous owner did not change the oil in the four years he had it according to him. So four years, about 800 miles on the bike in that time. About 7k total miles. Obviously, change the oil but should it be flushed? Mechanic friend said no that modern detergent oil will do it the trick and flushes just cause problems. Ideas?

Run the bike up to operating temp and change the oil and filter.
Don't make it an ordeal. My '55 Ariel suggested using a mix of oil and solvent but it didn't have a filter. |

Just change the oil.
If it makes you feel better, do the next change at 1-1.5k miles (early). Then treat it like normal. |

Thanks. That is about all I can do.
