Hey guys, I've got a 2007 Vee with factory heated grips and they are not working properly.

The right grip gets hot enough I can't hold it on high. Meanwhile the left grip I can barely feel any heat. It does heat a little, just nothing like it should.

I have unplugged everything and checked the connectors. Everything seems fine there. I also checked the resistance on both grips and got the same numbers on both grips.

Any ideas where to look next? I'm thinking it might be the controller, but I have no idea how to test that.

Chances are the left grip has an internal short. They are wired in series and a short circuit will bypass part of the left element providing little heat. At the same time, it will lower the resistance of the left grip, providing even less heat and routing more of the power to the right grip.

OEM heated grips get significant more more problems reported than other brands yet cost more.

After checking all of the connections, see if you can work the left grip off of the bar, then wrap the bar in electrical tape, or something else with insulating properties before re-installing. A great deal of the heat generated is lost to the inside of the bar.

Hey Don, I don't think that is what's getting me because the left grip heated normally for months after I got the bike.

I have a 2007 with factory grips as well and I am experiencing exactly the same thing. Sounds as if it may be a problem that affects more than one or too of us.

I wonder if this is something that Suzuki knows about and if they might replace the left grip for us?

If you find a solution, please let me know.

Well I have a 2010 Wee and my hot grips are doing exactly the same so it's obviously a design flaw. If someone comes up with a solution I'd be over the moon otherwise it looks like they'll be throwaways.

I also have a 2010 AK9 and she came with factory fitted heated grips. SNAP! The right grip heats up more than the left, at full power the right grip is almost too hot to hold, even with gloves on.

Is Suzuki likely to respond to an email asking about this if we get enough examples of the problem?

OEM heated grips have been troublesome for many years. I don't expect anything short of a massive influx of complaints to have much effect.

The right grip is always hotter than the left when it's cold out. The heat sinks directly into the handlebar on the clutch side, no matter the brand. The throttle grip is isolated from the bar.
