If there is one best oil, no one knows what it is.

Any motorcycle specific 10W-40, or 20W-50 or 15W-50 in hot weather, will do great. It should say on the label that the oil passes the JASO MA standard for wet clutch operation, or the stricter MA2. A synthetic oil will give longer oil life. Many diesel engine oils work very well if they have a dual API rating...CJ-4 or CI-4 (diesel) and SM or SL (gasoline engines). I'm not familiar with the availability of certain oils in South Africa. There may be some shared with our friends in Australia, and those riders can offer their suggestions.

Default What is the best type oil for dl1000? Just got bike...has amsoil in it now.

Hey gang,
I am new to this forum and just got a Vee strom, so sorry for the stupid question.
I know what grade oil, but this bike came with amsoil full synthetic in it. Was told by previous owner, this is the best!
Can someone with experience tell me what is the best oils for these type engines?
Thanks in advance...
I am not an idiot, really.

Look at my posting #651 in this thread.

Amsoil motorcycle oil is excellent. Many other oils also give excellent results. Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 is the easiest on the wallet. Our engines do fine with many oils.

Just saw the gripe about having his post relocated to here or shot down by GW. Funny!

Every bike forum has zealots about oil. All I know is that it's the light brown stuff that turns black after a few thousand miles.
As Shakespeare said, "Much ado about nothing!"

The ranters happen occasionally.

I'm not ranter - I'm a creator/inventor.

Asking help from this community on this topic (oil), please help make this page the best we can (advise/feedback/text/etc.)
