I just had to remove the hollow front end to do and HID install, from what I remember:
-There are some pop rivets & a plastic piece at the front of the gas tank. Press the center of the rivets, and then remove. (Too reinstall the rivits laterpush the center part of the rivit so the center part is sticking out, then you push the rivit into place and then push the center, you will hear it click) - The plastic pieces at the rear of the fairing are held on by a rod & grommet system plus 1 bolt.(allen wrench size 4 or 5). - Remove remaining bolts, I think 3 on top and one at the bottom. - Remove the front cowling under the lights. Theres about 6 or so pop rivets two being larger than what you have removed so far, and two screws. -With the front cowl off you will find one last set of screws.

First time I took the cowls off I thought "this is a pain in the butt", the second time it was easy. If you break any pins I bought a whole bunch of aftermarket cowl pins in a set at the motorcycle shop that were cheaper then just two OEM pins, I keep the rest on the bike just in case.

The pins are easily unlocked by pressing the center in. See the link. I've reused mine dozens of times.
