Let's have a national event.
Here is what we will do.

Since many of us like to share/brag about our gas mileage, let's compare all at once.

This upcoming Sunday, June 10, 2006 I will put up a thread "MPG REPORTS". In this thread we will post our MPG. This will mean that either Saturday or Sunday, you must test your MPG and report it in the thread. Ideally only the stats will be in that thread, no commentary.

The protocol will be as follows.

DL 1000 or DL 650

Octane of Gas.

Mileage Calculation (Mileage/Gas used)

Outdoor Temperature.

Type of mods to your Strom that could affect mileage. IE Windshield, Cases, Powercommander, etc.

Weight of rider (could be optional if necessary)

Type of riding during test. IE Highway, City, or Wide Open.

Total Miles on your V-Strom

The data will be kept as a sticky in the "Performance/Mods" forum for all of us to look at.

Neat idea for everyone to get involved. One suggestion though. We have MPG/ US.....We have MPG/ CAN/European. And of course true Canadian fuddle duddle L/100 KM. Can you make it work so everyone can get involved and have real all over the world results. I'll start right now. I'm up to 3500 KMs./front signal.

Do we post indicated miles? Since I went +2 in rear sprocket the speedo/odo is even more whacked. Most riders don't know their odo is off (stock), some folks run GPS (like myself), etc. Given this is going to run this Sunday I will be at a high elevation which will be a big advantage on the Big V's mpg. Maybe I'll have to unload all the luggage and draft behind RTJohn.

Givi Tourshield,"Penny Tech" top box.
My weight W/ ATGATT : 229lb.
Riding conditions : 45deg/f. w/light to moderat rain winds 10 - 15mph w/gust up to 30mph.
All mileage was on 2 lane roads (No superslab) & recorded as indicated
I had no gps to use.
avg. speed:47 mph./ highest speed: 62mph
Total miles/this ride: 229.7@ 5.78gal =40.175mpg. (The top box
is not as aerodynamic as some of the newer units)
Temp at Whiteface mtn.@11:15 am 40 deg/f ( with wind chill factor felt like 30) But I had a great ride..... jack

Don't worry, to save you to convert my values I did it for you.

I developed a very simple excel table where I put data after every fill up.
If you are interested in, drop a pm and I send it to you.

I did not filed all the data Howboucha specified so far, but as far as I remember:

DL 650
Octane of Gas: 95 ROZ
Outdoor Temperature: 11-26 Celsius
Type of mods: windshield (almost under continuous setting, even without it), Kappa K46 topcase, stock handguards, lowering link(?impact?)
Weight of rider: 198+ lbs ATGATT, sometimes 2 up: 353+ lbs
Type of riding during test: mostly intercity roads with very few highway and some gravel and city
Total Miles on my V-Strom: 2200+

Now I need to go for test-ride, see you later.

I had to work all day Saturday so I only got a short ride in but here's my numbers:

'04 DL1000 with 15k miles (no engine mods or tweaks. I have yet to sync TBs, adjust valves, or adjust TPS. It's exactly like I bought it(except for oil changes and a new thermostat housing))
Rider weight (with gear) 250lbs
Tour Master saddle bags and sport tail bag: 35lbs (estimate)
Stock screen in lowest position.

Conditions:
Altitude Range: 6000 to 7000 feet (playing around in the foot hills)
Temperature Range: 62 to 85
50/50 city/hwy gusty cross winds to 30mph (mostly)

Distance: 193.6 miles
Fuel (87 Octane): 3.62gls (topped off at the same pump)
MPG: 53.48

Best MPG to date: 64mpg (July '05 cruising around at 10k ft.)
Worst MPG to date: 43mpg (Aug '05 playing rather hard.)
Average MPG to date: 52mpg

Not as fancy as Mokus but I think I coveerd it all.
