44mpg on 2011 wee

I am only getting 44mpg. I used to get around 50, but the last 4 tanks have been a steady decline. Plugs are new, air filter has 6k. Valves just adjusted to middle of tolerance for intake and open end for exhaust valves. Also got new tires, and replaced chain and sprocket. 28k miles on odometer. Seems like I am getting the winter gas blues. I use regular unleaded.

How do you guys get such good consumption?

I have a 2009 DL1000 and I average 32.1MPG. Could it be because I do 100 miles per hour most of the time?

Fuel economy report: 30 mpg - 50 mpg

2011 Wee with 9,000 miles at start on a 2,000 mile trip over 4 days, from 600' to 8,700' above sea level in TX, NM, AZ.
Ambient temps ranged from 60F to 90F, usually closer to the higher end.
Single Rider + gear ~ 250 lbs total, top box but no panniers.
Givi engine guards. Suzuki touring windshield.
Everything stock mechanically.
Varied octane from 87 to 93 at different fill-ups, didn't seem to impact economy.
Climbing / descending or altitude didn't seem to have a noticeable impact on fuel economy.

The thing that mattered most was bike/engine speed.

At 7,200 rpm in top gear (90 mph gps, 98 indicated) - 30 mpg

At 6,200 rpm in top gear (74 mph gps, 80 indicated) - 45 mpg

5,500 - 6,000 rpm (under 70 mph gps, 75 indicated) - 48-50 mpg

Overall trip average was 43.7 mpg.

2012 Vee MPG

I have been averaging 45-48 mpg with a combination of city/hwy driving and single with two-up.

On our last trip, I was riding two-up with my wife (stock bike with Suzuki top case, panniers and other farkles, passenger weight ~ 300 lbs.) on back roads and highways, while trying to avoid 6th gear as much as possible (4K-5K RPM), and we averaged 48.6; mpg. I am pretty sure the bike has the upgraded ECU.

On the trip home, I deliberately used 6th gear and I think that we exceeded 50 mpg, but I have not filled up yet. I have noticed no difference between 87, 89 and 93 octane fuel.
