Same here. No noticable different between skid plate and no skid plate. 3 bars spring, summer, and fall. Winter and below 30° F it does bounce between 2 and 3 bars sometimes.

Keep in mind the first gen SV650 had no oil cooler at all, and had no overheating problems. Even during 6 hour endurance races in 106° heat.

The Pat Walsh Designs skid plate uses a steel mesh screen, above the actual skid plate, so there is no blockage of airflow. It's a clever system - burly aluminum skid plate below, and screen above, where the screen is sufficient to ward off the debris that would likely damage the oil filter.
Notice the mesh screen....

Its a fact that these engines' oil cooler works too well. Youll be fine.
