Looking for some info...myself and some friends will be riding from Ohio to Newfoundland Canada in late July into August. On the way home we planned on stopping in New York city for some sight seeing. We really didnt want to ride around the city with fully outfitted bikes and gear. Does anyone in the area know of any lodging with a secure parking garage that isnt top dollar on the outskirts of the city that we can get a cab from into the city? Or have a backyard that they will allow two stroms and a can-am to camp in (this trip is almost all camping) along with two tents for a night? Also any advice on NY city will be welcome, must see sights, good food etc.
Weapon of choice....

Harriman State Park is 40 minutes outside the city for camping/hiking. NJ is also a parking option as they have good public transportation to/from NYC. Be cautious when riding out there, the drivers are nuckin futs. Bribe whichever Strommer lives out there with cannolis... and have some yourself.

The toll roads are crazy; many toll booths require stopping and accelerating in heavy traffic to pay 25 cent tolls is nuts. With so many cars stopping at the booths, there is a gross amount of or oil and rubber and combined with the water dripping from the vehicle air-conditioners it's sometimes treacherous. Be extremely careful; treat every tool booth like it is an icy road surface.
I've toured through the seaboard states 2-up with my passenger wife looking after the tool money. What a pain; too bad you just can't pay a few bucks in one place and avoid all the fuss. I'd suggest that you guys get transponders so that you can avoid the hassles.

Manhattan is one of the MOST expensive places on Earth and worth every penny.
Example the Marriot Marque in Times Square is about $500 a night and car parking is $50 a day However There is also Very Good access from trains called Metro North. You can stay north of the city in a motel , hop a train and be downtown in 30 minutes Once in the city subways or cabs will get you anywhere ALSO 8/2 My Northeast Strom Not so Adventure 2013 will be in the Adirondacks 8/2 you could meet other Strommers

are you on advrider.com? check around on that site for camping options in the outer-boroughs. always someone willing to help if you look hard enough.
i personally would not want to deal with the metro-north trains. if you are not to particular, you can find decently priced hotels in the city. you will pay for parking though and it won't be cheap. but not having to deal with trains, at least for me, is well worth it. searching for hotels is not difficult. 3 friends of mine from nicaragua shared a room and although it wasn't the greatest, it cost them about 60 each per night. as for food, whatever in the world you desire you can find in NYC. tell me what you like and i can recommend a few places.

A riding buddy is just about done with a motorcycle storage barn on his home's property. I'm sure you could negotiate a more than decent fee to store and I'd guess even camp there. He's right off Exit 8 of the NJ Tunrpike. He's off from his oil burner business that time of the year and he or I could get you guys to and from a train into NYC. He's a Staten Island native, so I'm sure he could give you plenty of city savvy. Sounds like a decent adventure, the area from Lake George to Maine is great riding and a beautiful as it gets this side of the Rockies. |
