If you sold the bags, you would also have to trade the mounts for the luggage rack or buy a standard rack.

Right. The aluminum rack on the standard bike is replaced by a steel rack that mounts to the side bag mounts.

What does the Adventure model give you other than the luggage? I thought on the 650 you got crash bars and some other things.

The 650 does have crash bars. The 1000 does not. As far as I can tell, it just has the side and rear bags.

Overall, it doesn't sound very easy to sell the bags.

Tell them to just get another 1000 for you without the bags, dealers can trade inventories or outright acquire bikes from other shops without much work. If they don't want to do any of that, just find another 1000 without bags elsewhere.

My wife insisted on a black wee, so we argued about the bags too but no luck (mines orange) I did make them come way down on the price, planned on selling them but I use the all the time on mine. I am sure you could get the person buying the bags to trade you the plate. It took about 10 minutes to move the brackets and plate from her bike to mine.

I got the same kinda nonsense when I bought my Wee. (Bought an '11 - they had two on the floor plus a '12 that hadn't been sold yet on the day I was there)

The dealer was 45 minutes west of where I live. (I live in the sticks).

Fortunately another dealer about an hour and 15 minutes in the other direction from where I live had the same bike without bags at exactly the out the door price I was willing to pay. So, knowing that I told the closer dealer how much I was spending and told them I'd be "happy" to include the bags for that price. They removed them. Then AFTER I did the deal they walked in and asked if I wanted to buy the rack, mounts and bags for $600. . . they went down in value by half just from being taken off the bike - heck, I probably would have bought the bike with them ON for that price

Ended up buying the bike WITH the bags. Wanted black that much.
