Hi folks:
I thought according to the manual that the fuel light starts blinking when you have 1.2 gallons remaining and the fuel light and the last fuel bar at 0.8 gallons. According to my last fill-up I was about 4.32 gallons consumed... so I didn't expect to see the fuel light blinking so quickly. Perhaps I'm not filling all the way? Would love your thoughts, David

My V is also pretty conservative as to when the low fuel warning comes on.

As it was in the beginning, and so it ever shall be, fuel gauges are very, very approximate devices.

There's another thread on this, I can't remember where. But it's something like 50ish miles on the blinking fuel indicator and another 50ish on the subsequent sole remaining blinking fuel bar. I did 20 miles on a blinking fuel bar and filled up with 4.66gal. After that my fuel gauge seemed to act differently, showing the bars for longer... sometimes it would show three bars and I'd have a 3.2gal fill up.

Better to have the blinky light lie to you on the safe side than push bike miles after it quit running with no blinky light.

Being a retired pilot, don't trust fuel guages, & the only time you've
got too much fuel is when your on fire. |

I rode my V for about 25km yesterday with the blinking bar. Filled up and only managed to get 17.86Lt in. It was as full as it gets. Maybe I can tempt fate and go as far as I can next time I see it flash, just like Kramer did in his Saab test drive.

Or you can reset trip meter and plan on refueling arounf 250 miles.

On tour with my girlfriend last week, I rode for about 80 km after both the "pump" indicator and last bar started flashing, bringing me to about 380 km on the tank (~240 miles), which is about as far as I've ever gone on a tank. At the gas station I managed to squeeze in about 20.5 litres, meaning there was only about 1.5 litres left in the tank. That's closer to being empty than I'd generally prefer to run the bike, and means I probably could have only done another 20 or 30 km at most before I'd have been out of gas.
IIRC, if I fill promptly when both indicators start flashing, the bike typically takes about 18 litres to fill, meaning there's about 4 litres, or a little over 1 US gallon remaining in the tank. |
